Adirondack cuisine is what drives the casually-creative menu at historic Oak Mountain. The year-round activities and local recommendations are what get you here. The hospitality, fun and high-standards instilled by âHellâs Kitchenâ finalist, executive Che
Food was okay, nothing particularly special and nothing horrible. Service was also friendly, not great, not bad. But itâs like the tables are set up in a high school gym. Ambience? There just isnât any.Hi David, Thank you for your comment, we are sorry you didn't enjoy your experience.

King of the Frosties is a landmark in Speculator. The burgers are huge, as are the ice cream servings (a "baby size" is the equivalent of smalls or mediums in other places). Wednesday nights feature an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet.

Common Grounds is behind the "four corners" and hard to see. It oddly rivals other restaurants for some of the best food in Speculator; this is, in part, because both Melody Lodge and Inn at Speculator have set the bar so low, it wasn't hard to pull pole position with decent diner food. But, hey! For the price point, it was great! We did have to help bus tables and help our waitress ring up what we had, but given the overall kindness of staff and refreshing cleanliness of the environs (vs. the filthiness of Inn at Speculator), I can't help but give thumbs up.For you heathen travelers out there, but forewarned that each time we have gone, there is a lot of Jesus talk in the air. This is not a shock given the Camp of the Woods facility very close by. Also, note to management, I'm sure you make decent month with all the made-in-China faux-authentic Adirondacks nick-nacs, but I do dislike having to walk in each time and have to pass through the "store" to get a table. However, I don't mind seeing the recommended books on the wall.Overall, Common Grounds is a safe bet. No surprises, but safe... esp. if you love Jesus.First, thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about our little cafe, even going so far as to say it is some of the best food available in Speculator! We strive to provide a superior product and service each and every time a customer sets foot in our door! Please let me apologize that you had to "help our waitress ring up what we had" while you were there. This summer we have rolled out a new point of sale system that (in theory) should absolutely streamline our process and make us even that much more efficient. Unfortunately, this system works via our wifi connection, but on this particular day, there was a widespread outage of both internet and cell service, encompassing much of the county for most of the day. The devices on the system couldn't communicate and therefore the cashier wasn't able to just pull up your bill as should normally happen. It was a glitch that was out of our control. Thank you for understanding and helping them out. My staff is great, I am glad you got to experience their kindness even though they were dealing with a failed system on a VERY busy day. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again soon!

Executive chef/owner Steve Tempel was Anthony Bourdain's sous chef in Manhattan and opened Logan's after the birth of his son. Logan's offers a mix of excellent food, fun, games, music, local beers and more. The restaurant is decorated with a mix of eclec
30+ minute wait to have food served. Only 3 tables with customers but bar was full. Then 5 more tables came in and all for one waitress ( bar had their own But kitchen could not put out the food. Taste was ok price ok but nothing special We apologize that you did not have an exceptional experience - we strive to ensure all our customers are happy. Unfortunately there are times, especially during this time of year, when we encounter unexpected/unseasonal volume of customers, which results in a bit longer wait. For this we apologize and do hope to see you again.

Very disappointed. With Melody Lodge closed, hoped for an interesting menu...no such luck. Very basic, asked for ranch dressing on my salad, got vinaigrette, shrimp nicely cooked but plain white rice, husband's steelhead trout was over cooked and he asked it be over mashed potatoes and got rice. No, we didn't complain, our waitress was overwhelmed as it was. Won't be back. Such a shame, the new owners really could have jumped on this opportunity to grab the Speculator clientele...they won't with this very ordinary, bland menu

Following a snowshoe race at nearby Oak Mountain, we sought a fine lunch before heading back to school. The eating spot where we stopped for lunch a year ago was closed, so the Sunrise Diner was around the corner and obviously open. The sign indicated the diner only serves breakfast on Sunday, and they close at 1:30. It was 1:10, so we were in with 20 minutes to spare. The menu options and the obviously moderate prices were appreciated by the two of us, soon after sitting at the characteristic diner counter. The wait staffâs pleasant banter was engaging and delightful. The duo were comfortable talking with all the patrons, most of whom were finishing their late Sunday breakfast as we arrived.I enjoyed the biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs over easy, and home fries. It was really nice to know the home fries were cooked/fried on order rather than kept warm under a lid, drying out. I appreciate potatoes cooked right.Despite our late arrival, everything was cooked/served as if we mattered. I would recommend the Sunrise Diner to anyone seeking a good diner breakfast while passing through Speculator.

This place mainly serves sandwiches (breakfast and lunch), salads and coffee. Indoor and outdoor seating available, along with free WiFi.
If you ever happen to be in the middle of Rt 30 between Northville and Speculator, you have to stop at the Lakeview General Store.Due to their semi-remote location and proximity to popular campgrounds on the Sacandaga River, they developed as a truly "get-everything-here" general store. You can get everything from plumbing supplies, camping repair stuff, bait, tackle, and frozen filet mignon (as well as reasonably priced gas, propane, etc). The real reason you have to stop is their food.Even if you are passing by, you have to stop and get one of their sub sandwiches. They obviously bake their own rolls. I worked in a deli that had fresh rolls delivered twice a day, but they didn't compare to the Lakeside's rolls. They have 2 sizes of subs, but the larger one will probably feed a family of four. You can also get burgers, great chicken fingers, really good fries, and even fresh made pizza (including party sizes). They also have a softserve ice-cream window too boot. My wife and I occasionally stay on Lake Algonquin, and soon found out that rather than bring our own food, you can't beat the Lakeside Store..

Great "About Us" story on their website, and, after hearing about the owner's having been a sous chef for Anthony Bourdain, our hopes were up, even after seeing the five-page menu, and despite a couple of disappointing meals here four years ago. But the food and wine are just not up to snuff. The house "Sauvignon Blanc" -- in quotes because it was undrinkable swill -- I ordered a draft beer to get the taste out of my mouth -- the Paradox Beaver Bite IPA did the trick. I didn't complain because I felt sorry for the waitress, who could not have been much more than 18, if that. My wife and I each ordered fish: my "Blackened Haddock," came tan, not blackened, with no perceptible spicing, and mushy -- likely just defrosted. My wife's fish was similarly disappointing. Our starter salads were run-of-the-mill. Memo to Logan's: take a tip from Gordon Ramsay and get down to a one-page menu, and try to do it well with fresh food; dump the cheap wine ($6/glass, and not worth it). We were minutes away from Logan's and had no reason to have more than one meal here in a week.

We had an excellent meal, great service, and a very friendly place to gather. The staff was very accommodating and we felt immediately welcomed, promptly served beverages, and food was done to perfection. After dinner we visited with the owner and had a most pleasant evening. We would not hesitate to list the Alpine as one of our favorite places and will return often..
