Carlos Cantina is first and foremost a bar. Over the years they have expanded into a restaurant. The food is overpriced for the quality you get.

I did the drivethough late one nite. It was so unremarkable, I just remembered. The young man at the window was very nice. I ordered a couple of crunch wraps. I get them just for that little crunchy bite! They were good. Fresh and hot. But neither one had the crunchy corn tortilla in them! Basically they were flat burritos. Sigh.

What a wonderful surprise to eat at this Honduran Mexicican restaurant. I had a delicious typical hondouran breakfast of fried eggs, plantains, beans, cheese with cream and avocado. Can’t wait to try it for dinner.

Stopped in for lunch on a whim since it was a local restaurant and not a chain. . Disappointed in the salsa and chips as well as the cheese enchiladas. The salsa was more like red chili or ketchup and the cheese enchiladas had very little cheese which was not even melted. The staff was very nice and the service was fast. Prices were competitive for that type of food. Not really impressed though and probably wouldn't return.

I have breakfast at Rita's this morning with two Belen residents. I ordered some huevos rancheros with green sauce without beans , my friends ordered the huevos Rancheros with beans and pepitas as well as a pancake. We're all very very happy with our breakfast. The owner even came out to our table and said hello and told us about his Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful experience.

On our way to Albuquerque, we passed through Belen around noon. It is a small town with limited dining options given its size. We stopped at Alejandro's Cafe, which was a family style restaurant serving New Mexican and American fare. The food was great. Generous portions. Very well priced. It was clearly popular given the number of people that were there. While we waited for our food, we had yummy chips with fresh salsa.

Montano's Restaurant

We stopped for a late lunch/early dinner. There was no one else there, although a couple people stopped to pick up take-out orders while we were eating. This is a little, dumpy place. But the portions are large, and prices are reasonable. Both the red and green chili are good, and spicy! The best part was the sopapillas. They came with the meal, and they were so light and fluffy. We drizzled them with honey, and actually we couldn't finish everything. We took leftovers home. Our waitress did her job, but was not super attentive. She was more interested in playing on her cell phone. (Although I can't really blame her. There wasn't much for her to do, except maybe clean the place up a bit????) Anyhow, we enjoyed the food.

Picked this restaurant because the picture of the building looked interesting and needed a place for lunch on a 5 hour drive to Santa Fe. The food was excellent and exactly as advertised - fresh. The taco special was delicious. Service was spot on. Will go back.
