After my previous experience with another restaraunt (see my other reviews), I am now very leary of which restaraunts I frequent. When I stepped into Baja Fresh, I was welcomed by signs everywhere that proudly promote the freshness of the food. From the register, I could easily see the food stored in the refrigerator and the food being cooked to order. As they say, there are no freezers or microwaves here. I ordered a combo platter that included a quesadilla, fish taco, rice, beans, and what I beleive was a flauta. I really enjoyed the flavor of the fish taco most although flautas have always been one of my favorites. The quesadilla was a little plain, but I added the pico and sour cream to liven it up. Speaking of pico, they have the most amazing spread of salsas anywhere. Ranging from mild to hot, even fruity, the salsa bar is worth a visit. I found the prices to be comparable to any similar fare. Baja Fresh is a definite step up from your usual. I will continue to visit when the opportunity arises.

Don't let the plain outside look of this place or its commercial location fool you....This place is a delight. Great food, drinks, service.....You can get many different variations of a margarita off the happy hour menu, which is unusual in this neck of the woods (I'm partial to the jalapeno margarita, but there are so many choices). House salsa is above average and the menu features traditional fare, standard Mexican dishes, many with their own spin. Portions are plentiful, but sensible. Their corn enchiladas are top-notch, fresh tasting. Service/wait staff is helpful, personable, not pushy, and they don't shove you out the door in forty-five minutes. For dessert, the churros are tasty, freshly made, perfect. We'd heard about this place when they were only in Cliffside Park, but this was close enough to try and glad we did. Restaurant, service and food are all five stars....I just wish they'd lower the volume on the music (music itself is great, but conversation can get overwhelmed)

I wanted something quick to eat and stopped in here. I ordered a veggie blow that was very tasty and full of flavor which was much better than a very popular chain. I went back the next night and tried a shrimp fajita. There was about 20 shrimp along with the same flavorful rice and veggies as in the bowl, good value for $10.00. There guacamole was great too.

We go here about every six weeks and always enjoy our food! The service is sometimes suspect due to the size of the wait staff and number of customers. Everything was just right this time and service was very good! I ordered a combination platter and my wife had chicken soft tacos. They have a never ending bowl of chips and salsa served to all patrons! The food is why we go back. They serve drinks such as Margaritas and Mexican beer.

I visited that place on a Friday night. There was a 25-minute wait. I ordered a margarita that was really good and great portion (4 glasses in the shaker). However, the food was disappointingly lukewarm. I had the Smokehouse plate (half rack rib, chicken breast, Italian sausage, French fries, corn cob). ALL items were almost cold except the corn cob. There was no reason why my food was lukewarm, since the restaurant was completely full, other than it was long-time prepared in advance and not kept at a good temperature.The service was not great either, as the server really looked "sad". I don't think he was having a bad day.Not sure I would return.

We stopped here after a long drive back from Baltimore after a cruise to the Bahamas. Authentic Mexican. The dishes coming out of the kitchen looked fabulous. We had the chicken fajitas and quesadillas. Both were done just right and we really enjoyed it. When the salsa came out yellow I had my doubts but man it was great!!! Small restaurant but it was packed and it was a Sunday evening. Rutherford has become a Mecca for cool restaurants. Great town!!

I'm always hesitant to throw the work "Great" around like many people do. "Authentic" is another word I see often regarding Mexican restaurants.I've been to several local Mexican restaurants and this is a good one...not great...hard to say authentic.The menu is small but sufficient. There were 3 of us and each ordered a different dish.My wife said the fajitas were the best she's had locally.My daughter only orders enchiladas and wanted 2 chicken, one cheese. Had to order all 3 the same and she ordered the chicken. She wasn't thrilled with her meal but she basically prefers them to be 'cheesier'. I tasted hers and actually preferred the enchiladas over my meal, a beef burrito.I found the burrito to be very bland plus an up-charge for beef seemed unnecessary but not a big deal. If we go back I'd order the enchiladas.The BYOB is a always a nice feature but the meal, compared to other Mexican restaurants wasn't inexpensive.
