It's still Denny's, a successor to the long-ago Howard Johnson's as an all-purpose family restaurant, but we are seeing positive improvements in the menu and the cooking. If you look closely you can find light and healthy grilled items, with clear calorie counts noted. The salads are good, and the sides included wild rice and grilled zucchini with summer squash, and light entrees like steak skewers and tilapia. The 55+ menu has good value, and the kids' menu had a wider than usual range of choices and sides like apple slices. They still have things like chicken- fried steak if that's what you want, but they seem interested now in going beyond the old diner classics. Service is generally friendly and efficient, if you can avoid the peak weekend times. Reasonable prices, online coupons, and an AARP discount too. Sometimes you want a place in between fast food chains and more serious dining, and this is a good option with a less contrived menu than Applebees or other bar/restaurants.No wine or beer, it's not that kind of place.

Grew up in the area and have a sentimental attachment to this place. I like to check in once in awhile, see the celebrity pictures behind the register (fewer than there were years ago...). Was visiting and stopped in for a late breakfast on a weekday. Pork roll, egg, and cheese on a hard roll, coffee, and grapefruit juice. Everything was fine, came out fast, and I was on my way.

My husband & I were staying overnight at the nearby Holiday Inn in Carteret/Rahway. We asked the friendly front desk staff where to eat for dinner that was good, close-by, and reasonable.They recommended the Bus Stop Diner and they were right! I ordered the fish plate and my husband got an Italian special and we both liked our dinner. Plus the cornbread rolls and dessert were yummy.

Needed a place where I could take a client, eat quickly, and then head to the train station. This one fit the bill. It had your typical diner selections. However, we went in a bit on the later side for lunch (2:15PM) and the service showed. We were challenged to find someone to wait on us, and then it took longer than usual to be served. it could have just been the time of day? I order the Tuscany panini which was tasty and my colleague had the Buffalo chicken wrap. It was an abundance of food, which is typical of the diners in the area, and the cost is what you would expect. I was just underwhelmed with the service since it was a struggle to order, get our food and then get the check.

I live in the neighborhood - it was one of those days I did not feel like to cook so we went there. Nice place, clean... their menu choices are plentiful...the dinner comes with a salad bar, soup and a desert... and here comes our main dish - big portions!!!! So be careful with salad bar:)... the food was good but the wait service is kind of lacking... oh well there is room for improvement
