The Spanish Tavern is the premier destination in New Jersey for awarding winning traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine.
Great food and fabulous deals on weekday lunch. I must say though Iâve been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and the service was always excellent but not so much this time. Maybe because they have new owners they havenât staffed up yet which I hope they do by the next time we go. After all there is a myriad of good Spanish restaurants in the area so you always want to put your best foot forward. Good luck to them. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review! We made a reservation for 4 on a Sunday night at 6:30 and we were glad we did. The restaurant was busy with some large groups celebrating birthdays. Adult birthdays. They honored our reservations on time. The first thing we noticed when we opened the door was how loud the restaurant was. It was not filled to capacity but it was loud. Loud enough where you are yelling at the person across the table from you. We had some questions about the menu and the waiter was very well-versed in how the food was prepared and it's ingredients. After we ordered, we received a very fresh basket of bread with a side of butter. We began with an appetizer of sweet plantains wrapped in bacon. The 4 plantains were very tasty and the perfect combo of sweet and salty.Although we didn't share, our table ordered the Paella Cubano, Bistec Empanizado, Bistec de Palomilla, and the Ropa Vieja. All of the meals came out fresh and hot. I really enjoyed my Paella Cubano. Both the portion and the amount of seafood was perfect for my meal. Other restaurants overwhelm you with a caldron of paella but this was just right. The portions for all of our meals was perfect for the price we paid. Most of us sent back a clean plate to the kitchen and we found some room for dessert. We ordered the Tres Leches and the Churros. Again empty plates. As a coffee snob, I would say the coffee was very good. The prices were very reasonable per couple after tax and tip ($80). Remember that's 1 appetizer, 4 entrees, 2 desserts, 4 coffees. You'll love that they present the check in an old cigar box. It's a BYOB. The service was very good and friendly. There is street parking or you can park at the train station across the street. We had the pleasure of meeting Luis, the owner, who graciously came over to our table and welcomed us and checked to make sure things were up to par. A very good dining experience but it's on the loud side.

Went to Tinga twice. The second time was just as good as the first. The guac is very good, the salsa is good, if you don't like hot stuff; we were looking for a bit of a bite, but we should have asked. Quesadillas were good too! We had the non-alcoholic margaritas, which would have been much better with some spirits! But that is the greatest test, when a restaurant can hold their own w/o alcohol being served. Worth the visit!
