Cooking on a stone. Order steak, tuna, or shrimp, and they bring you a stone, which must be heated to 400 or 500 degrees (maybe more) and you cut your tuna (which we ordered) to your size specification, grease up the stone with oil or butter and cook the meat to your specifications. I have never encounter this before. Cooking smoke fills the room. But the stone cooking is just one item out of hundreds on the menu. A note to the wise, order less than half of what you think you might eat. The neighborhood where this resteraunt is located reminded me of the polyglot populations, populated by various legal immigrant Europeans after World War II.

This review is actually for their #2 location on Stuyvesant Ave. Burnet's is the furthest thing from fancy. There are about 10 tables and a walk up counter, but the food is great and the prices are unbelieveable. My mom had the shrimp in garlic sauce, served with a paella type of rice and roasted carrots. I had the beef short ribs, served with paella rice and black beans. We each ordered the 'half order'. The lady who served the food told my mom to get the half order--good advice. My mom's entree had tons of large shrimp. She ate about twice her usual portion, and brought home leftovers for two meals. I did sample her carrots, and thought they were very good.My order came with two good size pieces of tasty beef cooked medium well, and lightly seasoned. The rice and beans were also lightly seasoned and very enjoyable. I did finish my meat, but probably left about a quarter of the rice and beans behind. My mom's entree ran $9.50, while mine ran $12.00. At this price point, this was the best meal I've had in a long time. I'm thinking the local crowd agrees with me. As we were eating, a lot of folks came in for take out orders. The crowd was very diverse.Keep on doing what you're doing!
The exterior of this building that house this restaurant needs a total facelift. It resembles a warehouse with limited parking out front. If you look past the fact that the interior looks like a decorated gymnasium with tables around the entire floor, you may be surprised at what you get.Delicious Portugeuse dishes cooked perfectly and combined with plenty of sides. We started with Clams Casino app ($11.00) that we so delicate (normally I avoid these because they are made heavy with butter) that I was tempted to order more. Our entrees consisted of Veal Cutlet & Shrimp ($18.00) and very tasty, Chcken Breast in Garlic sauce ($16.00) and generous, and Sirloin Steak with ham and fried egg in a Port Sauce ($16.00) and so filling it lasted two more meals. The bar is limited and they did not have wine by the glass so we ordered a bottle @ $18.00 and though we expected the worst. However, it was wonderful. All the sauces were fresh and tasty but not over spiced. The crowd inside was friendly and social but the biggest benefit was our server WILSON. A young man with a terrific sensitivity to customers and such a friendly disposition. He was knowledgeable on all entrees and always there with a simple nod of a customer's head.We left entertained (by Wilson) and full thanks to the excellent cooking.
