We took out chicken with rice and fries to eat with the family at this Portuguese barbeque restaurant and I have no complaints. The chicken and the fries were very good, we were satisfied.

This is the mother of all BBQ places in Newark. There are always seats available since it's blocks away from Ferry St. It certainly isn't the best meal I've ever had, but the quantity for the price can't be beat. Sometimes they throw too much salt on the chicken, but it is what it is. Please get the full chicken with rice and fries. Share it with a friend or take it home for lunch the next day. Don't forget...here's the secret...that the yellow container isn't mustard. It's some sort of hot sauce made in heaven. Throw that into the rice and thank me later.

A very nice place to eat some good Brasilian food. I like the concept of the all you can eat menu. I also like the different stations in the back where you can get rice and beans and other food items. The picanha was fantastic. They also have live music on the weekend.Definetely would go there again,
Surprisingly good food. Brisket sandwich and pulled pork were excellent. Loved the potato salad and corn bread. Came for an early dinner and the place was empty and comfortable. Excellent service, good music and good place to watch sports. They have a large parking lot too! The churros were delicious but only came with 3 small churros.

Definitely the place to be when you're on a budget. To try it out I purchased a half order of chicken with rice and fries (roughly $6). I came even make this at home for this price. It was juicy and fresh. I will go back for more.

Picnic is the original Portuguese BBQ restaurant in Newark, offering an exciting mix of authentic Portuguese BBQ prepared over a real wood charcoal fire-pit.
We stumbled onto this restaurant after being stuck in an airport hotel due to weather delays at the airport. Seeing lots of Portuguese restaurants in the area, this one had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. Ironically the front desk attendant at our hotel said this is her #1 favorite restaurant and was ecstatic we were going there. It was only about a 5 minute uber ride from our hotel, which was also only about 5 minutes from the airport. My co-worker and I both had the half chicken and ribs meals with rice and beans. We also got brought fries by mistake. My chicken was pretty dry, but my co-workers was very moist. Flavor was very unique and good. The ribs were a bit tough and could be cooked a bit hotter to make them more tender, but again the flavor was excellent. The rice was good, and the beans were very unique and probably the best beans I've ever had, other than some bbq beans. I expected bland beans in a plain sauce, but the flavor caught me completely by surprise! I ended up eating all of the beans. Their fries are fresh cut and made to order. I'd suggest fries over the rice because the fries are absolutely excellent, not pre-frozen junk. The portion sizes are HUGE! Just the half sized meal was more than I could eat, same for my co-worker. And I have a pretty big appetite too. If we had a place like this where I'm from, I'd be a regular for sure. They had a lot of unique items on their menu, and I wish I could have tried them all!A couple notes for first timers like us. If you're not carrying out, you go to the back to be seated, don't wait in line up front like we did. Also if you want something other than water, there are coolers up front and you grab what you want.

Portuguese barbecue captures and enhances the flavor of meats withrock salt rubs, unlike barbecue chains that serve bland ribs covered in sweet rich sauce. The ribs come out naturally smoky, and still tender and flavorful.Great ribs, but slightly burned in spots. Portions are huge and prices are great. Suggest to order full orders (not a half order), and bring some home.Look at other peoples food photos here and these say it all!We also got an order of Grilled Bacalhau to go. Didn't try yet, but can tell you the order was huge, and full of peppers, sliced onions, and potatoes. We got it to go as there was a 45 minute prep time for grilled fish orders :( ....The restaurant has somewhat spotty below average service, and takes me out of my comfort zone, but I suggest just "go with the flow", and enjoy your BBQ!...

Left the airport to see something else and thougt Manhattan was far away. Simple salads and pots. But the meat was terrible. This "Brazil" restaurant either cant prepare the meat properly before the grill - or simply buy bad quality cuts. The only piece that was decent was the sausage. When complaining the meat wasnt teder... they came with a sharper knife! They would go under in no time in Brazil...Not even cheap. Go elesewhere.

This place came highly recommended and I know not to trust that person again. We were seated quickly and they brought cold bread to the table. The waiter brought us tea and water and then disappeared. The person bringing meats (we got the RodÃzio) was very attentive but all of the meat was over cooked (burnt/charred/dry). We had to ask for the waiter to get a refill on tea and water as he never came by the table again. When we were finished we had to ask someone to get a bill because again the waiter was no where to be found. There were lots of wait staff congregating around together so I know they had sufficient staffing. The food wasn't very good and as I said neither was the service. Next time McDonald's would be a better choice.

Food was good, brisket tasty and the fried green tomatoes yummy. Venue is casual and comfortable and overall it was a great evening with my family. Although location is not fabulous, it's relatively safe. I would go again.
