New Hampshire Ranches | Places to Stay in New Hampshire

April 19, 2023 Russell Mellin

If you are looking for diversity, you will certainly find it in New Hampshire. From lakes to beaches, waterfalls to woods and mountains to sea coast, the state has huge potential for outdoor vacations, including downhill or cross-country skiing in winter. With no less than seventy-five state parks that offer natural areas, hiking trails, beaches and historic sites, New Hampshire caters for a variety of tastes. Crawford Notch State Park in Harts Location has picturesque waterfalls, wonderful mountain views and opportunities for viewing wildlife. You can go hiking and fishing there as well as pay a visit to the historic Willey House. Monadnock State Park, unlike some other state parks, is open all year round for hiking. Want to go swimming? You will find five state park beaches along the coast of New Hampshire, such as Wallis Sands with its view of the rocky Isles of Shoals. On North Hampton State Beach and Jenness Beach you can have a picnic as well as a swim. When you've finally had your fill of fresh air, head for the Museum of New Hampshire History in Concord with exhibits focusing on heritage and traditions; children should enjoy them just as much as adults.

Perfect Family Getaway

Reviewed By 989kileyr

My family and I stayed here over Columbus Day weekend we were happy that we chose this place. To be honest other reviews were discouraging and I was honestly nervous about our trip. Happily all my nerves went away when we walked into our little cabin. It was so cute and clean we had a fridge stove sink bathroom it was amazing. It was perfect for my family of 3 plus our furry family member. We were provided with pots pans utensils a toaster it was perfect. The only thing that I would critique is the beds, if you go bring some extra cushion with either a comforter or a sleeping bag etc. The property was beautiful and we can’t wait to back during the summer to see what else they have to offer.

Home away from home

When you’re looking for a place to relax, recharge, or reconnect with your children or grandchildren, The Inn at East Hill Farm is the perfect place. I’ve often described EHF as summer camp for families, with the luxuries of a full-service resort. Each day brings new activities for every age: learn to make cheese, bread making, milking the cows, candle making, contra dancing, magic shows, nature hikes lead by naturalists, trail rides, collecting eggs from the coop (my kids favorite), or relaxing by a roaring fire. My family has been vacationing at EHF for over 20 years. Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve were some of our favorite times to visit, with fully prepared meals there is no clean-up just celebration with friends and family. The complimentary cocktail parties on Wednesday and Saturday nights are something to look forward to. Pack your swimsuit, hiking shoes, and a good book and enjoy great food, hospitality, and memories that will keep you returning year after year.

Magical place...for 65 years!

Reviewed By cmfairygodmother

My grandparents discovered this place back in the 50's, when it was run by Margaret and Chester Colburn Sr. We used to pack the car to the hilt with food, kids, even the dog, grandmother, blankets...so much so that we couldn't move. I recall my brother Eddie bringing home a large painted turtle in a pot! We had a ball...hunting for salamanders, bull frogs etc. Swimming in the lake was amazing, Back then the walls did not have ceilings. I remember many pinochle games taking place on the screen in porch. Some of that has changed now, but the magic of the lake is still very much alive. Bev and Chet Jr, have relinquished the control over to their son Michael now...and he is doing a fine job to keep the resort running with the same care his Grandparents did.

Reasonable & comfortable off the grid stay

Reviewed By RoseD04253

Chris was very helpful in making reservations for a two day getaway off the grid. Told us about nice swimming spot just down the road which was perfect as it was a little warm while we were staying. Yes you only have electricity for an hour in the morning and at night but it's part of the charm and you manage your day around it. The beds are a little more firm than I am used to but they are comfy & clean. Basic kitchen amenities supplied which I didn't even need as I had packed supplies as if I were going camping for the weekend. Thank you for the time away to be able to truly relax & refresh. Having a self employed husband it was a huge help to have cell phone service at least a 20 minute drive away :-) If you're looking for the best of the best, not for you, but if you're looking for a relaxing base camp while you enjoy the company of those around you and the beautiful outdoors you will be happy here!

NOT dog friendly

Reviewed By T4521BIkarenm

While the cottage was small, we knew it would be. However, advertised as dog-friendly, it was not. There was not a place to walk a dog on the property or off. Everywhere you went, up and down the road were signs, No dogs..No peeing, No pooping. We are not dog jerks...our dog is as nice and quiet and friendly as any dog you'll ever meet and we clean up after her. And we paid extra to bring her! But, if we wanted to do anything we had to put her in the house, by herself. And we definitely enjoyed being allowed to use the canoes and explore the island. We enjoyed that very much. On the other hand; there was some kind of family reunion going on, who took up all the picnic tables and all of the beach, leaving no room for anyone else. Not your fault, but made it very uncomfortable for a couple of older people who wanted to sit outside and have a drink and relax.

Stay Away from Cottage 10-Old and Very Dirty. Lake Access is Great

Reviewed By hotbat73

The best part of Piping Rock is the Lake Access with free kayaks and boats. The lake is beautiful and the swimming is great. Cottage 10 is very old and very dirty and kinda small for a family of 4. Not cleaned at all and they charge you a $100 cleaning fee. Also it is falling apart. The handle fell off the frigde. There was dirt in the couch and on the floor and on the TV. The place is very old and needs a face lift. you kinda feel icky staying at the cottage. it has a nice porch and is steps from the lake. For $380 a night all in with the cleaning and management fee, you expect more. Also No Air Conditioning. Charlie was a nice guy and accommodating.

Great Place to have fun with your Dog

Reviewed By Pat P

I've stayed their many times. People are lovely. Setting is magical. And it could not be better for a vacation with your dogs. Lots of trails. Skiing and snowboarding in winter. Hiking and swimming in summer. Not the spot for night life but a great place to relax and enjoy the healing power of nature.

Not what I was expecting

Reviewed By donnasmith55

I want to start by saying that the couple who owns these cabins were extremely nice and accommodating. I chose these cabins due to ratings. The room in hotel section was a good amount of space. The condition of the bathroom especially was not okay. The soap was all broken into pieces. The toilet was cracked. The shower curtain had mold on bottom and the mirror was ruined around edges. Most of the time the toilet was only flushable by opening top tank lid and pulling up plunger inside tank. My husband tried to fix it to no avail and the owner came to fix but it was working okay when he was there and shortly after stopped again. It is a very reasonable rate but not sure why the ratings are so high

I was scared...

Reviewed By Julie Warner

This was like staying at my grandparents home, with just as many rules and "Don't use that door, close that screen, please don't use any more towels" than even they could conjure up. My grandmother was also a better housekeeper. This place was dirty beyound belief. The horses are left to their own devices, outside 24-7 with little shelter and no feed (grazing only). Also, there was no pond in sight. You would have to drive to the lake, which you will probably want to do to get away anyhow. I felt as if I were a terrible inconvenience to these folks, especially when they are standing over you at dinner, grasping dishes away as soon as they appear empty. They are selling the place, just as well. Save your money.
