2 of the 3 in our party are vegetarians, meaning we eat eggs and dairy but not meat or fish. This restaurant was reviewed as being vegetarian friendly and having a good selection of vegetable dishes. It did not, in fact, offer any dishes without at least fish, since everything came with Miso soup with a fish base, and there was no way to ask for a substitution without speaking Japanese, since the waitress did not speak any English. There were only about 5 items on the menu (though there was an extensive (and expensive) drink menu. The special came with very good sides, in the Japanese style of several small bowls with a few bites of each food, but the main dish was fish tempura and there was no vegetarian substitution available. The atmosphere was good as long as you don't mind sitting on Tatami mats, and the prices were reasonable (1200 yen for the meal) as long as you don't want to order a drink (around 500-600 yen for a cup of tea or coffee). There was one vegetarian dish (aside from the Miso it came with), which was a rice-cheese-mushroom casserole. It was decent but small. As far as being hard to find, it did require going down some side streets. We came around from the back, which has a gravel parking lot with rocks and metal statues of children playing. The front had a small tree, some potted plants, and a stack of rocks.

We loved this cafe so much we ate here 3 days in a row. Serving the most delicious crepes, both sweet and savoury options, and yummy fresh salads, pasta and great coffee. The staff is lovely and friendly and very accommodating. I highly recommend this cafe for breakfast and/or lunch.
All Plant-based menu absolutely No animal products All local and organic ingredients used when possible, When choosing our products quality and good taste are most important to us and your health, This is the vision and concept of Onwa
Being a vegan is hard in Japan since so many sauces have meat of fish so I was thrilled to find onwa. A quick walk from the station - google maps was spot on. English menu listing all the ingredients - tasty and delicious! I had the teriyaki burger - the other options and the sweets looked wonderful but I was too full. Tasty nutritious food - well worth a stop off.

To find the shop, as you exit Kintetsu Nara Station, just walk a little south along Mochiidono-center-gai shopping arcade. Flavorful curry and curry bun made with plenty of vegetables and tasty spices. The varied menu runs from non spicy much items loned
Went here on a cold day after sightseeing. Their menu is amazing, with a lot of different styled curries (spinach, lamb, chicken, beef - and also vegetarian options!) and different levels of spiciness, ranging from sweeter, Japanese style curry to spicier ones. Their lunch set is quite good, paid 880 yen for a vegetarian curry cheese gratin, salad and some baguette. Portion size was perfect for me. For those who can't decide on one curry, they also offered a plate featuring four different kind of curries! Definitely coming back here soon!

Very good restaurant in Nara. Itâs in a small hidden road, but definitely worth the detour. Itâs a small restaurant and the chef works alone, so be patient and try to make a reservation. I had the 5 courses option and I was blown away, by the quality of the food and the kindness of the chef.Highly recommended!
