Things to do in Mozambique Island
This is always my first dinner when I go to Ilha. Last night I took a group of nine so we ordered everything; a huge grilled lobster, matapa de siri siri, a traditional Mozambican dish made here from seaweed rather than manioc leaves, revoada de galinha, rice with coconut, tocossado de peixe, lots of beer. A delicious and ample feast for nine cost us $60!

We often stop by when we visit the island for fresh juices in the morning and sundowners late afternoon. A very relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff - who trusted us to stop by later in the day with payment for our bill as they had no change for our large bank notes! The tables and a comfy cushioned stone divan are under the much needed shade where you can relax and revive with drinks and food throughout the day. Next time we plan to stay overnight and spoil ourselves at Escondidinho!

The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor area, but it was sadly raining when we went there, so we stayed inside. still fairly charming.Service is ok, prices too, food is not brilliant. We tried few dishes and I would rate them decent. No big surprise in any of them.Basically in front of this restaurant there's Karibu: seriously, go there instead!

We unfortunately missed the very famous roof terrace as we visited the place on a rainy day. The inside of the restaurant is decorated in the traditional style of the Island. The menu is not extremely diversified, but the available dishes are good. The music is excellent. The night we visited the owner passed by the tables several times without greeting his guests and the staff lacked enthusiasm, which killed the atmosphere that could have been otherwise pleasant. The restaurant is only opened at night.

Ancora d'Ouro is situtaed at the corner of an intersection in Stone Town and is very popular with locals and tourists alike for all meals and coffee. The menu is basic but delicious specials are on the wall board. Tasty thin-crust pizzas. Very basic but relaxing interior. There's a guy who sells cool local jewellery and artifacts in a corner near the counter. Nice staff and good service. Competitively priced. Enjoy a drink sitting outside at the front watching local life pass by. Was our go-to hangout in Ilha.

This is my second stay at Rickshaws and I cannot say enough good things about this property. From the greeting by smiling faces, the passion fruit welcome beverage that is presented, the beautifully appointed rooms with all the desired amenities, the delicious food...included breakfast but also the restaurant, to the spectacular view. This morning I am trying a new breakfast offering, Eggs Benedict. The eggs are poached perfectly and the hollandaise has just the perfect amount of spice. The muffins they are presented on were baked fresh, on property, last night. I am looking forward to sunset today when I can enjoy a lemongrass tea, served with a complimentary crepe, watching the sun set over the water from the beautiful patio, restaurant area, surrounded by blooming bougainvillea and restored working rickshaw!

Decorated with artifacts from ilha de moçambique mozambique island we serve good food from the various cultures that are part of our history.ilha de moçambique is in the forefront of fusion cuisine being an important port of xv century spice route.
Fans turn slowly above, old pictures on the wall, gracious service of excellent but inexpensive food.A nostalgic reminder of old Moçambique.Recommended.
