Nagasaki (長崎市, Nagasaki-shi, Japanese: [naɡaꜜsaki]) ( listen (help·info)) is the capital and the largest city of Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan. The city's name, 長崎, means "Long Cape" in Japanese. Nagasaki became a centre of colonial Portuguese and Dutch influence in the 16th through 19th centuries, and Churches and Christian Sites in Nagasaki have been proposed for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Part of Nagasaki was home to a major Imperial Japanese Navy base during the First Sino-Japanese War and Russo-Japanese War.

We stayed at Hotel Monterey excl. breakfast. We cannot find one single breakfast place around the hotel, so we settled for Gusto, comforting ourselves that we can at least have a good harbor view in case the chain store food is bad. Turned out that the breakfast is very good. The self-helped drink bar is all you can drink. Their coffee-- the best. The view- spectacular.

We went here as advised by our hotel (Crown hotel), and it was a lovely experience. The restaurant has several levels; we were at level 1, at the 'bar' where up to 10 people can be seated and served. Each group of 2 to 3 people had their own chef, who prepares the meal on the hot plate in front of you. On level 2 is the kitchen, level 4 has a different layout for small groups who like to sit at a table rather than at a bar.It was a bit difficult to order, since they do not speak very good english, but the food was good. The serve lunches from 12:00 to 14:30 and dinner from 17:00 to 22:30. The restaurant is very near a streetcar station, so very convenient to get there.Dinner menu has only 5 options, starting @ 4.200 Yen to 10.500 Yen. Meat is prepared to your liking, and lots of extras were served as well.

Very nice restaurant! The restaurant was named after the hero of the owner's favorite musical/film "Funny Girl." Nice restaurant of "Toruko RIce (Turkish Rice, ãã«ã³ã©ã¤ã¹)", rice plate with meat, vegetables, and pasta. You can choose out of 185 variations (or more?) of Toruko Rice. All the dishes are cheap and nutritious. I ate one with fried rice, spaghetti, fried pork and chicken, omelette, and fresh vegetables for lunch. It was delicious and quite filling. The iced coffee tasted good as well.

Not so many restaurants have as nice view as this one. Located just under the observation deck you get a nice view over the city while eating. The champon set that I ate was good and the service was fast.

Visiting Nagasaki for four days, we asked our hotel for restaurant recommendations. Uotatsu was their top izakaya recommendation. The sashimi was delicious, some of the best we've had in Japan. The food and drink selection was wide. We especially enjoyed the awamori, an Okinawa alcohol. The service was fast and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. The location is only about a 10-minute walk from the station, and 5-10 minutes to Dejima wharf. Easy access.
