The first night we booked this restaurant we couldn't find it because on the google maps their location is in a totally different part of Echo Land - go figure? When we finally got there we were 40 minutes late - no tables available - see you later! Fair enough we were late but there was no grace in the response. We arrived on time the second night and had to wait - now that's ironic and I did laugh! When we were shown to our table we were in a room that had 4 tables in it. Unfortunately two of the tables were occupied by families with 6 parents and about 6 - 7 kids, and only one parent doing any parenting. What are the parents thinking? I am not sure how this place is safe for children given the hot BBQ's are on tables that are 12 inches off the ground. Talk about spoil the ambiance of the place! Granted not the restaurant's fault however, don't put potentially grumpy over 50 year olds, who have been skiing hard all day and are exhausted, in the same room with toddlers at 8.30 pm to later at night! Our days of patience and ability tolerate high pitched squeals are reserved for our grandchildren at a reasonable hour of the day!!! Then there was the smoke from the BBQ. The ventilation and exhaust fans were not adequate. My eyes stung and watered the entire time. So between the kids and noise level, the smoke and the inadequate fans, is there anything I can say that's redeeming given I am normally quite a upbeat sort of person? Well some of the meat we barbecued was good (but we come from one of the best meat producing areas in Australia so we have very high standards) but at the end of the day the experience was over priced for the enjoyment level and the expectations based on reviews. And finally, I found the staff lacking in typical, although basic customer service qualities that I have come to expect, except for the young woman who was pregnant - she went out of her way and carried the load for the other staff.

Hot tip: make sure to book around 3 days in advance. This is a beautiful, tiny family run restaurant with authentic Japanese hot pot. They had sashimi on offer which we enjoyed for entrée. We ordered 3 hot pots for 9 people with vegetables, meat and seafood. The spicy Chinese hot pot really cleared the nose and the mild hot pot was super tasty. Delicious tofu and seafood including a large prawn each served in the hot pots. Definitely recommend for a nice dinner out to warm your insides.

Outstanding food. Both service and food suited for our taste of a splendid time. I highly recommend to make reservation before you enter (1-2 day earlier). There were no bad dishes at all however consider the special rump. It was crazy.

It is well taken care of guesthouse with amazing value for money. I was the only guest since the main season in Hakuba is winter but at least I had my needed peace to recover after long hike. Nice staff, free laundry, nice bathroom, suoer comfy soft beds. The only thing I have to complain about is the wrong address they have on booking sites... please do something about it, such simple thing can get really annoying..
