We came down from nozawa for lunch as the there was no snow. Ended up being well worth it as we found this little gem. The owners were so good, extremely nice and welcoming and the food was better than anything we have had in nozawa. Have to try his home made Ume-Shu, by far the freshest and smoothest I've ever had. If you have a rest day in nozawa and want to go somewhere different for lunch than make sure you go straight here. The dinner menu looks amazing so we are going to head back down and try it before we leave.

We were looking for chestnut on rice and came across Sakurai restaurant. The restaurant is typical Japanese, large dining area and tables set not too near one another. There is a beautiful small garden that we only briefly glimpsed as we came here in late evening. Good food and good ambience, a nice ending to a long day.
Very nice and smily people, very little English but very very tasty buckwheat noddles with tempura, menu with pictures, parking in the front of the small house

This was our first stop when we arrived in Myoko. Our friends took us there and told us how beautiful the view was, they were not wrong. This little restaurant is situated right on the banks of lake Nojiriko, and the views are stunning. The staff are very friendly and were more than willing to help us and suggest options for lunch. We had the house wine, which was very pleasant and sold by the carafe, while taking in the views. The food was interesting, not all was Italian and some options were Italian with a Japanese twist. My Pork cutlet sandwich was very nice with wasabi and pickles. The beetroot gnocchi was also very different and tasty. Overall this was lovely way to spend the afternoon. A must visit when in the area.

Came here in a group of 9 and our group overall enjoyed dinner. Prices are above average. I would give 4 stars but two negative issues from our dinner mean I have to give this place only an average rating:> No separate billing - we spent 20 minutes organising our bill. Separate billing is normal in Japan, and disappointing to see they didn't want to do this given the above average food pricing. Also, our large group made up the majority of their orders that evening.> "Today's curry" expensive and poor - I received a miso & yoghurt curry with sauce and 2 bits of chicken with skin.If you order from here, I'd recommend the stir fried beef/pork. Ask to see photos of the actual dish. Do not order the curry.

"GOEN" has staple dishes prepared with fresh local ingredients like soba, tempura, sushi, yakitori etc...ready for you to enjoy.
We really enjoyed this restaurant. After two weeks of noodles, rice, and sashimi this was a pleasant change. They have all the typical Japanese fare plus some more western choices. We had agedashi tofu, yakitoria, the hotpot of mushrooms and shrimp, the scallops and cheese, and some drinks. Every item was served quickly and was hot and delicious. The service was friendly and fast. The prices very reasonableHighly recommended

Recommended by a Japanese friend, I stop by mid afternoon for desserts. Known for its chestnut creations (both savoury lunch and desserts), I went for the dessert.Zenzai is a traditional Japanese dessert I picked, with chestnut ingredients. It's a thick sweet soup consists of chestnut paste served with mochi (rice cake). Very good pairing with the tea, and some pickles. Sat by the window, with view of the blue sky and distant mountain. Great ambiance too!

Japanese eel specialty restaurant, âHONDAâ was founded in1904. We are located in the deeply snowing region, Iiyama in Nagano prefecture. We specialize to serve "KABAYAKI (Broiled eel)", which is one of the most traditional Japanese dishes to symbolize foo
I very much enjoy Japanese grilled eel and the Unagi at Honda in Iiyama pretty much tops them all.Honda is a mid sized restaurant in Iiyama, clean and orderly, very Japanese. The service is excellent and they serve eel and more eel. Pretty much this is their only dish and they do it pretty much perfectly. So, if you like Japanese grilled eel, this is the place to have it!! Definitely worth the visit and we will be back again!!

Jazzy is a funky little Jazz bar and definitely worth visiting when in Madarao. The food is very good, it has a very well stocked bar and broad wine selection but best of all is the owner's huge collection of jazz memorabilia and music collection. There isn't a lot to do in Madarao during the evening but here - just kick back, enjoy some drinks, a good meal and settle in to enjoy the music and experience of spending an evening at Jazzy.Loved it.
