We come to this restaurant from time to time for lunch when we visit the Chino/Suwa area in Nagano Prefecture. We usually visit Nagano Prefecture in the summer season to escape the heat in the Tokyo area, when we would have cold soba dishes. However this was December with snow in the morning so we tried their warm soba for the first time. You have some choices in what to have with the warm soba. I had fried eggplants and my wife grilled mackerel. The fried eggplants with grated radish went well with the soba and the eggplants most enjoyable. Nagano Prefecture is a district with really good vegetables. The soba served here are all teuchi (hand kneaded) and volume is limited. The restaurant is in the Michi no Eki (service area on major roads) of Tsutajuku on National Road 20 between Kobuchizawa and Fujimi-machi and very convenient to stop by if you are driving. The warm soba dishes with accompanying fish or vegetables is one thousand yen and is very good value for money. There are some delightful side dishes such as fritter of wakasagi (small lake fish similar to whitebait) or battered minced beef (called menchi katsu) at very reasonable prices.
