Your meal at Mavis's Kitchen reflects what's important to us: food grown organically (in our own garden where possible), sourced locally, harvested seasonally and prepared and served with love. Our food philosophy has always been about low food miles, environmental sustainability and supporting our local community. Our aim is to create a space where people can reconnect with nature and savour the flavours of a local food experience. The restaurant is open for lunch Wednesdays to Sundays, dinner Fridays (tapas) and Saturdays (a la carte) and for breakfast on weekends. We also cater for weddings, functions and corporate events.
Beautiful food with a beautiful view. I’ve been there a couple of times and had a great experience each time.
This is a great and well sought after wedding venue. My mates got married at the lake at Mavis’ with Mt Warning as a backdrop. It was beautiful. Reception was held in the main dining area and the food was delicious.
We’ve also stopped by for a cool refreshment after hiking Mt Warning. Whilst pricing is slightly on the higher side and we had to pay for water (both still and sparkling), it was another highly enjoyable experience.

With a panoramic outlook across the lush Tweed Valley to the Border Ranges beyond, Tweed Gallery Café offers a unique dining experience with one of the best views in the region. Like its sister restaurant, Mavis's Kitchen, the café prides itself on the provenance of the food it serves, sourcing fresh ingredients from local producers and artisans. Located upstairs at Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre, the café seats up to 100 patrons and is open for breakfast, lunch and light snacks from 9am until 5pm, Wednesdays to Sundays. The café pavilion is also a breathtaking space for hosting weddings and events, and parties of up to 160 seated guests or 200 cocktail-style can be accommodated within the café premises and/or the adjoining gallery foyer area.
The Art Gallery Cafe is to my mind a must to visit if you visit the Tweed Regional Gallery. There are verandah tables with lovely views over the valley and towards Mount Warning. There is tea and coffee and tempting cakes. There is a range of lunch choices, and beer and wine choices too. We enjoyed our Earl Grey tea ($4) and our peppermint tea ($4). The goats cheese and onion tart ($17.50) had short pastry and a filling that was like a goats cheese custard. It came with salad, and was a tasty and satisfying lunch. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

Promising vintage layout/shopfront and long history of this cafe made me walk in but I was quite disappointed once I made it past the beautiful cake counter. Would love to see some retro decor played up instead of the tired 90's colours, ad there is some huge potential to promote a unique historical vibe. Rude counter staff member (an older male) who clearly did not want to be there or serve customers, could not even crack a fake smile on return to our friendly versions and we semmed to be an irritation to him despite our having the simplest of orders. The barista (older lady) was excellent however and coffee top notch. Still not enough to win me back after such rude service by her colleague, won't be back.

There is a theory in our exrtended household that bakeries and coffee shops are opposite ends of the spectrum. But we had been told that Sugar Beat did serve good coffee. Worth the risk we thought as we could always go across the road to our regular cafe.
Surprised we were. The coffee was tasty, the right temperature and served well. We will return.

I could eat at Nam Yeng every night for dinner, absolutely love it. I often bring friends along and know that many of them have come back over and over. Recently a retreat guest went back 3 times in 4 days for the delicious Tom Ka soup...

Absolutely love this place. Great coffee and food but have been disappointed lately by staff who seem less than enthusiastic to come anywhere near you let alone ask if you would like a coffee or menu.
Sat today for 10 mins. Without anyone approaching me. had to ask to be served. Actually the woman next to me had the same problem.
Shame because it is one of the best cafes in Murbah. But it's not the only one....

If you are staying or stopping by Murwillumbah, this place is the small hidden gem of great food. I had the eggs cenzo. The hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon was absolutely amazing

I found it very difficult to start this review. I have enjoyed coffee here for the past two years and the coffee is still good. However, this was the first time I had lunch here.
There were four of us looking forward to a delicious lunch, and we are still looking forward to a delicious lunch. But it may have to be somewhere else.
My wife and I shared the frittata; a meal so bland that the highlight was the sauce. Faye had the salmon, which was a salmon and cheese Sandwich with red onions. Unimaginative presentation and something I could prepare in a nonchalant throwaway manner at home.
Service was okay.
I would still return for the coffee but nothing more.

Googled restaurants in Murwillumbah and this Chinese restaurant came up in the search with a five star rating out of five people. Our daughter was in an estedford one street away so we booked ahead. Although they were a bit caught out with how busy they were, they were friendly and the food was some of the best I've had. Fresh and flavoursome. Will def come again next year.
