Find out what Central European restaurants to try in Murmansk. Murmansk (Russian: Му́рманск, IPA: [ˈmurmənsk]; Kildin Sami: Мурман ланнҍ; Northern Sami: Murmánska; Skolt Sami: Muurman) is a port city and the administrative center of Murmansk Oblast in the far northwest part of Russia. It sits on both slopes and banks of a modest ria or fjord, Kola Bay, an estuarine inlet of the Barents Sea. Its bulk is on the east bank of the inlet. It is in the north of the rounded Kola Peninsula which covers most of the Oblast (semi-autonomous region). The city is 67 miles (108 km) from the border with Norway and 113 miles (182 km) from the Finnish border. The city is named for the Murman Coast; an archaic term in Russian for Norwegian.

This small hotel has a ski resort above it and an aqua park indoors. they offer day packages that include snow activities and swimming and lunch for a fixed price. Our kids learnt to ski here on their training slope. All equipment rental is included in the day package price. We returned the next day and bought ala carte (much cheaper) - the kids wanted to spend more time skiing.

Noticed this place from a taxi as we drove by, it can hardly be missed, its mock Chinese design stands out a mile in this city where Soviet-era, grey, and rectangle buildings abound. Inside, the décor is lovely and the service is actually quite good. The menu (they have ONE English menu! - but the Russian version has pictures) is the usual mish-mash of Chinese, Sushi, and 'European' dishes, so was expecting the usual bland Russian interpretation of Asian cuisine. Could not have been more wrong. The Goa soup was VERY spicy, and I'm used to Vindaloos served in Ireland, the locals must be blasted to the Cosmos when they try it! Had Chicken dynasty for main course - again this was very tasty. Go for one of the fried rice dishes as opposed to the boiled rice, which was a bit on the sparse side. If you're stuck in Murmansk for whatever reason, and hankering after something exotic and spicy, this place is a pleasant surprise!

This location is one of several in Murmansk. It is a little out of the way and smaller than others, but the food is good. I would recommend the Chicken Caesar Salad and the Chicken Kabob.

I have been in Las Galetas several times during the last years (latest in June 2010). This is a great place, situated slightly outside the centre of Murmansk and thus is easily accessible by public transport or taxi. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, but sometimes can be noisy. The menu essentially refers to Russian and pan-European kitchen, even though it seems like the chief is not afraid to improvise in fusion style. Mind you, starters and deserts are usually quite good in this place, so do not skip them. The price has been steadily increasing throughout the last years, but still is acceptable. The waiters are fairly OK, polite and attentive, remember to tip the granny standing in the wardrobe :)

It was the only night life location we were able to attend during 1 day visit, therefore it is difficult to compare it with others. Most likely the place have evolved from a rockers/bikers venue to something more commercial. As a result it feels now more 'polyester' rather than 'leather' and it sounds more 'discotheque' rather than 'rock'n'roll'. To its credit, some blues covers performed by a local band were quite good, all the pauses were filled with almost pop hits so encouraging guests (especially young girls flocking around older gentlemen) to start dancing. Overall the place seemed very popular among the locals, which is usually a good sign.

The best place in Murmansk to try something new from European dishes and to try the real taste of Uzbekistan. Gray Goose attract guests because of good location, comfortable interior and professional service. Weekend is the time for bright parties and mod
I remember good food and prices that left our Moscow wallet to breathe a little. Both sushi rolls and our soups were good, the ambience nice even though I remember a bit of a waiting until our food arrived.

There is a network of these places in the city. I'd call the place "democratic" but it is a little bit too expensive for what a "run-in-and-eat" type of place. Massive wooden tables and benches, resistant to ... intensive Russian's personality are comfortable just enough for a pair of hours you'll spend here for food. There is more comfortable seating sometimes available if you are lucky. Food quality varies on day of the week (Thursday and Friday night you have better chance to get better food, Monday is less advisable day to visit) but still quite good for a Bistro. That applies to service too. Sometimes it's good, sometimes a little disappointing, but generally, if you don't have too high expectations you'd be satisfied. Don't forget 10% tip, rounded up to next 50-100 rubles as a customary in Russia.

Good choice if you like to have some non russian food in Murmansk.Service, like most of the services in russia has some space for improvement. The Pizza was ok. The restaurant itself looks clean and holds a little too much of dust collectibles.I guess, they call it russian charme.Nevertheless, a good and fair pick.

The pub was visited as an after thought, following a meal at the nearby Tundra Restaurant. Although notionally an English pub the decor and many of the available beers would suggest the place was modelled on the standard overseas 'Irish Pub' theme. The staff seemed very friendly, some spoke English and it stayed open late, with no grumbles about our visiting after midnight on a quiet, early in the week night. Drinks were relatively cheap with a large selection of beers, etc. The menu looked interesting enough, and I'm sure ex-pats could watch football upon request. I would definitely visit again, should I return to Murmansk.
