Nice boutique caravan park in a quiet rural setting located around 3km from the town centre with good access from Burnett Highway. Very friendly staff. They even gave us 4 eggs on check-in – how kind! Manager provided good van guidance. Well-maintained facilities with super clean amenities – loved the finer touches of flowers on the bathroom bench. They also had cabins available. Would certainly return again.

Built in 1901, the Grand Hotel is Mount Morgan’s only brick hotel. It is a fine example of a Double Storey Queenslander Hotel and boasts a tower on top. This hotel along with the town’s 2 other hotels are the last remaining from approximately 23 hotels in the town's history. (conflicts exist on exactly how many)* There is plenty going on at The Grand. We have great value meals in our bistro and the friendly service you deserve. The public bar is the perfect spot to catch all the LIVE sports on the big screen while having a drink or two. Make sure you take your time to have a chat to one of the locals, they have some great stories that will keep anyone entertained. Our Bottle shop has consistent deals all year round. Looking for a place to stay? We have the best value for money accommodation here in Mt. Morgan, just a 30 minute drive from Rockhampton. Pop in to say G’day! Our Dining room has been restored to a relaxed Family Friendly Bistro. Our accommodation rooms have been extensively renovated. We provide the Best Service, Best Bottle Shop and Best Dining Experience in the Mount. Call in for a coldy, your home supplies or meal soon we’d love to meet you. We are a small town of only 3500 people but there is certainly plenty to do. TMC Mine Tours offer tours of the Mount Morgan Gold Mine and other historical sites around town. Cycling is Good is also offering tours but on bicycles. We also have the Mount Morgan No. 7 Dam which offers a boat ramp, children's play area, BBQ and swimming facilities. We have a local swimming pool which is open most of the year. We are a short 30 minute drive to Rockhampton, Beef Capital of Australia.
On Wednesday 23 June 2021 I enjoyed a whirlwind one day visit to Mount Morgan as part of a short 5 day stay in Rockhampton, getting there courtesy of the local Young’s Bus Service. It was a memorable day taking in a number of town attractions such as the Mount Morgan Railway Museum (reviewed separately) and the Mount Morgan Historical Museum (also reviewed separately). A feature of the day was my “tale of two country pubs” where first I called into the historic Leichhardt Hotel (reviewed separately) and enjoyed a welcome drink after my Railway Museum visit. This was followed by an even better visit to the Grand Hotel to have a grand lunch after my visit to the Historical Museum. Both pub visits were enjoyable and each pub had its own unique characteristics. The Grand Hotel on the corner of Morgan and Central Streets is a classic country pub that oozes historical charm. It is one of only three pubs (the others are the Leichhardt and the Railway Hotels) still operating in the town which once boasted 23 pubs in the town’s hey day. The Grand Hotel was established in 1901. It enjoys a classic exterior constructed of brick and its key feature is an imposing octagonal corner tower with an onion dome roof of flat sheet metal ( so called because it is shaped like an onion). The hotel is L shaped and addresses both the Central Strret and Morgan Street frontages. An interesting monument is located on a traffic island in the middle of Morgan Street in front of the Hotel. It is the Mount Morgan Miners’ Clock sitting on top of a tall slender brick tower seated on a concrete plinth. It was commissioned by the Mayor of Mount Morgan on 5 May 2001 and dedicated to all who worked at the Mount Morgan Mine, The Hotel sports a delightful interior with plastered walls and a modern free standing main bar serving a wide array of alcoholic drinks and where meals can be ordered. The Restaurant is in a separate room through a doorway from the main bar. This is a delightful room with white painted brick walls adorned with a range of interesting black and white historical photos. It has a pleasing ambience and this added to the enjoyment of my lunch. Between the main bar and the Restaurant is a turned timber staircase leading to the upper storey where traveller accommodation is offered. This staircase is very ornate and quite stunning. A wide range of meals are on offer from their extensive menu including some incredible daily specials for each day from Monday through to Sunday ranging from pizza, chicken parmigiana, fish and chips and steak meals at very reasonable prices. As it was a Wednesday when I visited, I took advantage of their daily special offer of Fish, Chips and Salad for just $10. That is incredible value. The meal came fresh and was well presented and tasted just great. I ordered a 187mL bottle of De Bortoli Windy Peak Shiraz to enjoy with the meal. I found the wait service for my meal and also the service at the bar to be very efficient and friendly. So in summary, the Grand Hotel is more than grand by name. It also offers a grand lunch experience.

A great value for money, quirky, clean and comfortable stay for a family of 4 with a small dog. Convenient location with a short drive to down and supermarket etc. Bedding was new and towels were thick and fluffy. Air conditioning was also new and worked well!
