Things to do in Jianchuan County
We ate here four times during our five days in Shaxi! The hostess was so friendly and the food was comforting and delicious. We especially liked the simmered beef with mint, the twice-cooked pork and the shredded chicken. The service can be slow if it's busy. It's better to get a seat downstairs for faster service. They have a high chair for kids and can tailor the dishes to your tastes (eg less oily, no MSG). We followed the chef on market day as he went shopping for the week's supplies - he spends so much care making sure to choose the best food!
Simple local food but very tasty, had lunch here before a cycle trip around the valley. Lotus root was excellent although not sure what else we ate, either way it was all good
Located in the recently restored Shaxi Pear Orchard Temple (Nunnery of Sheltered Mercy), the Pear Blossom Organic in Diantou Village offers wonderfully simple Shaxi dishes from traditional local Bai recipes. Our Chef Mrs. Yang Yu Ju is from the nearby Vil
We went from the Old Theatre Inn, to the Pear Orchard for food; The Pear Orchard is a refurbished temple that can host travellers for vegetarian food, in the traditional style of the temples in the area; it's got lovely multi -platform set-up and amazing views of the Shaxi Valley from the top. Also, conveniently located on the way to the ShiBaoShan, whether you decide to hike it ( do it, the hike was really worth it !) or drive there.
