My favourite cafe/bar in Montalcino. I love it because the people are friendly, the outside seating is perfectly placed for people watching and there is a range of interesting drink options as well as the Brunello/Rosso that is ubiquitous in Montalcino. the coffee is tasty and strong and is dispensed speedily with a smile and a warm welcome. Great place.

The are many restaurants in this town and probably all have a better view, but the food here is above-average at very reasonable prices. I had pappardelle with rabbit ragu. My wife had the tuna salad with tomato beans. The portions were appropriately sized. The wait staff is friendly and the service was efficient.

My wife and I enjoyed a quiet dinner here and were very well served by the friendly staff. We started with bruschetta as well as a white bean salad. Tagliatelle with duck and the native pasta (name of which I forget but is awesome) bolognese were both super. Chef came out to say hello and check on us.The coolest part is that they don't use a wine list. Rather you browse around the wine shop, ask some questions, have a Brunello taste here and there and pull your final selection off the shelf. We pulled a 2010 Uccelliera - outstanding.

We stopped here as my son needed the toilet, and we took a table opposite the counter, and we ordered a coffee, some Brunello and two bottles of water. I tried 2 different Brunellos, a glass of each selected by the waiter, from a selection of bottles on a table near the doorway. The helpful waiter also brought a plate of bread, cheese and cold meats to the table.Comlimentary. We explained that we were looking for a pizzeria for dinner and he pointed out one nearby, which unfortunately doesn't open until 7 or 7.30 (and it was now only 5.30pm).The waiter kindly entered the wifi password on my sons ipad - he informed us that Italian wifi passwords can be very long! As we chatted about Brunello he suggested that I should try another one that he recommended - he went across the street to the Enoteca di Piiazza and brought back a member of their sales team who poured us a small sample of another 2012 Brunello. This sample one was fantastic so we asked if we needed to go across the street to purchase it, but our waiter explained that we could pay fir it in the Tavrrna instead. He wrapped it nicely for transport, including a bubble wrap wine bag. When the bill came he told me that he had not included 2 of the 3 glasses of Brunello that we had ordered, so these were on the house. We didn't eat food in the restaurant (as we wanted pizza) but my husband polished off everything on the plate of complimentary meats - he particularly enjoyed the pink cheese that had been flavoured with Chianti.

What a heaven of tranquility after a long way up the hill. Montalcino is a quaint tuscan village with a lot of gems to visit and see. But the lunch stop at this Enoteca has made my day. The window in the back of the restaurant/cafe has one of the most astonishing views in tuscany. The food and service was excellent and it is worth extending your break in this village. Thank you !

Probably the best meal overall I had while in Italy. Amazing food, service, ambiance, and of course, wine. Our server Elena was such a delight to talk to and provided impeccable service. Try the risotto with nettle and goat cheese, or the pasta with wild boar. Heck - try anything, you won't regret it!

Another happy visit here. This time with âspecial friends and as the wettest and windiest storm whipped through the town. All was serene on the Piazza and we were treated to yet another object lesson in Tuscan cuisine and a rare opportunity to indulge in a magnum of Brunello when someone else was paying. A beautiful meal of consummate skill in preparation and the usual smiley and prompt service.

We visited the great little town of Montalcino on our short trips within Tuscany. After visiting many of the wine shops that the town has to offer, we decided on purchasing our selection of Brunellos from the Enoteca Grotta del Brunello. The patron was a wonderful lady who was willing to answer any question -- even why the prices keep going up and up for the 2010 Brunellos. :)Great place, great selection of wine and wonderful customer service!Highly recommended!

We have been stopping in this GREAT place for a lunch with some wine producers. It is common to find good restaurants and wine bar in this area but in Svanen you can not only find a great atmosphere and a great food but also an experience of serving that comes from far away.We highly recommend this place where a vast selection of wines, including champagne, is properly described and served.
