It is about 12 kilometres (7 mi) southwest of the city of Bolzano.

We have been going to Pilhof for more than 10 years and it has had its ups and downs but recently more downs than ups, at least in our experience. Today was another down: we went for lunch and ordered a bruschetta starter to share and then a salad and a soup. And water. That was it, nothing complicated as we were pressed for time.The bruschetta came and was very tasty, but for â¬9, perhaps rather overpriced. Then we waited for our food - a salad and a soup, which should both have turned up quite quickly, especially as the place was quite quiet. After 25 minutes, we asked one of the waitresses where they were, as our original guy had disappeared. She went off to find out, and came back to say they would be with us in 2 minutes and a couple of minutes later, the food turned up without much of an apology.Ok, we had to wait. But we were pushed for time and quite frankly a salad and a soup are not complicated things to produce. The basic problem was our original waiter, who wasn't bothered about providing us with proper service and disappeared into another part of the restaurant, so he didn't realise there had been a mix-up in the kitchen (although as the place was so quiet, and as the kitchen's job is to produce food to order, and as we had already received our starter, how come it was so easy to mess up our order of salad and soup??).If a restaurant wants to keep regular customers who are no longer overwhelmed by the interior decor and presentation, as many reviewers here obviously are - for good reason but we've seen it all before - then they need to work on the quality of the food and the service. The food was good, but we paid â¬29 for a small bruschetta starter to share, a potato soup, a small salad and a bottle of still water. As the food was good, but not excellent, that price must also be justified by excellent service. And excellent service it wasn't!It's a shame, as Pillhof used to be much better. In the end Pillhof seems to aspire to a level which it can't reach due to the inconsistent quality of the food and the consistently indifferent service. The only high level they do manage to reach quite easily is the price... And if you want to pay prices like that, there are better quality places to visit in and around Bozen.

Betritt man den Gastraum, denkt man sich: "Oh, hübsch." Was dann aber auf den Tisch kommt, ist hinter der Theke frisch zubereitet vom Chef an der stylischen Schneidemaschine. Er muss sich wahrlich nicht verstecken. Sei es derTiroler Speck, die Käseplatte oder eine Kombination, die Qualität und die Präsentation ist ausgesprochen ansehnlich und sehr schmackhaft.

Wir waren im August in Kaltern und haben dort unseren Urlaub verbracht. Zufällig sind wir auf diese tolle Vinothek gestoÃen. Das Geschäft hat eine riesen Auswahl an Weinen aus Südtirol, Rest Italien und anderen internationalen Ländern. Als Weinliebhaber ist man hier sehr gut aufgehoben.Aber auch wenn man keine Ahnung von Wein hat, kann man keinen Fehlgriff machen, da man jeden Wein probieren kann und sich die Dame im Verkauf wunderbar auskennt und bis ins kleinste Detail über den Wein Bescheid weiÃ. Mit wenig Geld bekommt man hier schon einen guten Tropfen, das ist sicher. Das Gute ist, dass der Wein zu Winzer Preisen verkauft werden und somit nicht überteuert sind. Wir sind immer noch ganz begeistert und freuen uns schon aufs nächste mal. Lisa und Petra vielen Dank nochmal für die tolle Beratung, macht weiter so!Liebe GrüÃeKirsten

Situated right on the main square of the village Caldaro (Kaltern), this wine bar offers you the opportunity to try out wines of the region. They have a wine list which changes by the day apparently. I had a Lagrein, one of the most expensive on the list and it was really good. To accompany the wine, you can order some light snacks or dish of the day. A change from eating at restaurants all the time. We sat outside but the seating inside looked interesting too.

Oberhalb von Kaltern, in der kleinen Ortschaft Oberplanitzing, befindet sich der Speckkeller der Familie Sölva. Das Haus aus dem 16. Jhd. ist von Weingärten umgeben, die Vater und Sohn bewirtschaften.Der Keller ist eine urige und gemütliche Jausenstation, in der neben dem Hauswein auch Produkte aus der Landwirtschaft angeboten werden. Die Mutter steht in der Küche und zaubert herzhafte Gerichte, wie z.B. Schlutzkrapfen, Knödel-Tris, Gulasch oder Kaiserschmarren. Neben den warmen Gerichten gibt es auch verschiedenste kalte Jausenspezialitäten.Der eigene Wein kann ruhig mit Erzeugnissen renommierter Winzer mithalten, wie z.B. der Lagreiner Barrique oder der Cabernet Sauvignon.Wer einen tollen Weinkeller mit bodenständiger südtiroler Küche sucht, der ist im Speckkeller bestens aufgehoben.Die Jausenstation ist von Ostern bis Ende Juni und im Zeitraum August bis Mitte November von 18 bis 24 Uhr geöffnet (kein Ruhetag).

A fantastic bar with a lovely atmosphere and really friendly staff . Came every afternoon on a recent trip to katlern and this was or favorite starting point. Live impromptu music from the local adds to the feel, and nibbles with every order is a lovely touch. Lovely place and a must visit if your in town

The view in the valley was wonderful, but the wine was not good and the price was way to high for that kind of quality of drinks, we have ben with a group of 12 people and the result was common, we did not finish our drinks, but paid the bill as requested.

A great find. Nice tour and then a tasting and lunch on the terrace. Superb views. Food good and service great. They did very well considering the wind got up.There range of wines and I particular the Chardonnay was very good.Thanks a lot for your nice words. In a dramatically refurbished stone winery/barn, this owner-operated restaurant has it all for food, comfort, and hospitality. With a superb wine list offering the best of the region, and food that is locally sourced, fresh, and inventive, this restaurant is sophisticated without being fussy. Incredibly romantic, wonderfully welcoming, it was by far my favorite dining experience in Alto Adige.
