Our restaurant and beer garden have existed since 1996 and are run by the Bell family. Since April 2007 we have completely rebuilt our restaurant, as well as the beer garden. In addition to general improvements, above all the comfort was in the foreground
It might look enticing and attractive from outside but once inside you begin missing Mc Donald food which at least, has no pretense. Avoid the Wiener Schnitzel, it tastes like Wienna slumps, damp and hard and even the German dishes are bland and banal. The service is slow, and indifferent, it took 45 minutes to see the dishes on the table and even then they were Luke warm. The prices are reasonable but the whole experience is unpleasant and highly commercial. The salad was definitely not edible

The route between Ahrweiler and Dernau is so beautiful. The road, footpath and rail line all run parallel to each other as they wind through this fantastic valley. A natural broad leaf forest lines the valley walls on one side, and vines cover the other. And perfectly located along the way is Weinhaus Kriechel! As you settle into their quaint outdoor area and tuck into a glass of their own wine, you can't help but think "I could sit here forever"!But it's not just the scenery that makes this place special. The food is local, interesting, tasty, and good value. And a rarity in Germany, the service is genuinely friendly and attentive :-)

Saisonal geöffnetes Weinrestaurant. Wir haben ab Mitte April bis Ende Juli und ab September bis 4. Advent unser Weinrestaurant geöffnet. Wir bieten regional, saisonale Winzerküche an.
Our visit at Kortgen's was the perfect end to a weekend away! The courtyard is fabulous - we had some wine & nibbles there before heading inside for our meal (which at ca. EUR 20 per head, including drinks was very reasonably priced). They serve traditional German cuisine - with something for everyone (e.g. light salads, bread & "Schmalz", Pretzels with sour cream dip, Bread & meat platters, "Flammkuchen" or more substantial choices such as Schnitzel, Steak or Fish). The food as well as the accompanying wines (or beers) were excellent and the service very friendly - a perfect place to enjoy a summer evening (and we imaging it to be equally cosy during the winter months). The only downside is, that it gets full really quickly - so you should definitely reserve in advance (although reservations for the courtyard are not possible; here it's first come first serve) - and it can take a while before your main course arrives (it took over an hour for our mains to arrive - but nibbles are faster, so you don't have to starve while you wait). We'd definitely be back and can highly recommend the place!

Picked more or less at random. The proprietors are very friendly. The food arrived promptly and was very good, if a bit salty for our taste, but that's common in Germany. We had pork steaks with Pfifferlinge, which were delicious. There's a limited kids menu, but the mash with the fish fingers is amazing, if not terribly healthy... There's a huge amount of butter in it, but it's also flavoured with nutmeg, which is a very successful idea I'm going to be taking home with me.

I ducked into this restaurant as it began pouring rain outside. I'd been hiking the Rotweinwanderweg all the way from Altenahr so I was very hungry. I love Schweinschnitzel "Wiener Art" (schnitzel made with pork, not veal). It came with very good french fries and a small salad. I had 3 glasses of various red wines from the immediate region which all very excellent. I dawdled over lunch for an hour and a half. The atmosphere in this small restaurant is very warm and kozy, friendly and laid back. It was a very pleasurable and memorial experience. Service was quite good by German standards. Price was a little below average. There is an outdoor terrace which I am sure would be ideal on a sunny day. It overlooks the Ahr. I will be back.

In the hills of the Winetown Rech on the Ahr river, you can find this very beautiful German style restaurant. They specialize in game, but you can order other, even vegetarian dishes. Have you ever tasted badger, or moeflon? Almost every other game animal is on the menu, be it bird or mammal. And it all tasted great. We were served one nicely arranged taste bomb after the other. These accompagnying sauces, in one word wow! Of course home made. The winelist is extensive and is mostly regional, from the well known, to their own ones. Yes, Markus Bitzen is also a vintner. We drank his dry Riesling, which was full bodied and citrus flavoured, mmm.Portions were so huge, we could not eat a dessert anymore.Should one want to, one can also sleep here.Prices were according to standard.Well, this was a nice experience and it would deserve at least a mentioning in the red Michelin guide.
Top 10 German food in Altenahr, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

AtmosphereNice sunny terrace. The road is close but didn't bother us.FoodJust lovely. Gazpazio soup was so good, I wanted to order a second portion. They had several portions with fresh chanterelle, we chose the crepe with chanterelle. And the snails in red wine were good too. Everything was very fresh and home made. Also they had a very interesting list with moose etc.PriceNot expensive, soup maybe 5 EUR? Crepe maybe 10? (don't remember anymore, but general feeling was that not expensive)ServiceFriendly, cozyDrinksLovely German wines from the area.Would I recommend?Yes, absolutely. It is German food (not my favourite...) but very fresh, authentic, and yet stylish. I will return for sure.
