We thought we'd try this place after finding out it is similar to The Boiling Crab. You can order various 'clean' entrees, but we wanted to try the messy one. Make sure you have clean hands! You order what you want (2-3 lbs of potatoes, shrimp, sausage, etc.) and they put it in a sauce in a big plastic bag and that is how it is served. They give you a bib and lots of napkins. The table is covered with white paper. Then you 'dig' into the bag and pull out what you want to eat. No plates. It is very messy but a fun and unusual eating experience. We ordered shrimp as part of our bag, and the shrimp shells just pile up in front of you. It is 'finger-licking good'. The wait staff is helpful when ordering. The place was crowded with patrons. We were glad we were brave enough to try this out.
Vegetarian food in Vietnam is some of the cheapest food there is. This food is like 10x the price and does not taste as good. But considering it is in LA it is certainly not bad Vietnamese food. The portions are pretty small, so you might need to order an appetizer like the spring rolls. It is much harder to make a good base for foods without some type of meat stock, and this one did fairly well.
I have grown to love Pho and this restaurant in Rowland Heights didn't disappoint. One thing I really enjoyed about this restaurant was the friendly service. The server told us all about pho and how it should be prepared. She said a good pho broth is only beef and it should simmer for 12+ hours, which this restaurant did. The broth was delicious and really did stand out above others. I had the filet mignon pho. It was good with fresh ingredients.I would probably skip the egg rolls and stick wit the pho.Check this place out!
Whenever I'm in the area, I'll stop by for some pho and spring rolls. The pho is tasty, nice portion for the price. Service has always been friendly and quick. The spring rolls come in an order of 4, usually with fish sauce so I ask for peanut sauce instead. After a bowl of pho and 4 spring rolls I'm always stuffed and satisfied.
They have a variety of choices and the Banh Xeo was so crispy and tasty. They even served us complementary mung bean and seaweed dessert. Highly recommend!
I went to Pho Filet for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed with customers, no doubt familiar with their delicious pho and quality ingredients. The broth was very flavourful, not overpowing and the beef flank served separately so you can see it. I also noticed a poster for a large variety of drinks, and on a whim decided to order the avocado shake, and found it to be tasty--and happily, not sweet--so I didn't feel filled up. My companions enjoyed their meals, one if them saying Pho Filet is the second best place for pho in LA, while noting that other friends of hers say it is the best. I certainly enjoyed it!
