Adelaide is the heart of the world's opal industry, selling gorgeous stones from South Australian mines. Be sure to hike the aptly named Mt. Lofty Ranges and catch a wave off the Fleurieu Peninsula. Our grand daughter wanted to celebrate her 20th Birthday at the Vietnamese Mai Kitchen Restaurant so not having eaten Vietnamese food before,we went with some trepidation. We need not have worried as the food was excellent and great value. The service was good and the meals were served quickly.I had the garlic prawns, stir fried vegetables served and a steaming hot plate and my wife had Lemon Chicken whichj she thoroughly enjoyed.Do not be put off by the outside appearance of the restaurant as the inside is well presented and quite large. So from now on we will be eating more Vietnamese food and certainly be going back to Mai Kitchen Restaurant.

My husband and I and our 2 teenage daughters went to gin long tonight on a recommendation. Wow! We had an excellent meal. Chicken wings, cheese spring rolls, eggplant, soft shell crab, prawn toast all small plates but very generous serves. Then the squid which was possibly the best squid we have ever eaten, so tender. Followed by coconut rice, chop suey and slow cooked pork belly which was a big plate. We had six glasses of the house wine, 3 Shiraz and 3 reisling which were excellent and the bill was $172. Every dish was delicious which is unusual , service excellent , wine very good value. First visit, cannot fault our experience. We would highly recommend. We went at 6pm on a Tuesday night and it was busy which I suggest is testament to their popularity.

Favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Adelaide ! Small restaurant so can get a bit noisy. Booking a table is essential to avoid disappointment as it is always busy. Their sugarcane juice and young tender coconut are refreshing. Their BBQ Quail is a must try. My favourite is their combination rice hot pot, soft shell crab and their quail. Their pho is also good . Portions are quite big so can be shared.

In a creative moment inspired by travel to exotic places and a nod to the colonial features of the physical space, Madame Hanoi was born.
We wanted a pre-theatre matinee lunch. Being a Saturday, many usual options were unavailable. After a similar good experience at Seanâs Kitchen on a Sunday a few months ago, we booked Madame Hanoi. Staff were friendly and attentive, the menu is interesting and a bit different from your local Vietnamese favourite but still very accessible. We ordered a pork and prawn noodle soup from the âsmallâ section and a scallop dish from the âmainsâ, accompanied by a side of rice. We would have been happy to order another dish to share if we wanted but we didnât need to. The space, on different levels, is interesting but if you have mobility issues, the toilets are on the upper dining level. Wines are available by the glass, carafe and bottle. They seem to specialise in wines not normally on mainstream lists so it was good to see some new options and we could each choose a different glass.Worth a re-visit, we think!Wow thankyou for taking the time out Jan W to review your recent visit. Always great to read the feedback, and some valuable information for other diners. We look forward to seeing you in the future again, Kind Regards ^Ian
