Said yes to the waitress suggestion of the lunch buffet before examining the offerings (our bad) and it turned out the options were limited. The couple of salads and fruit combo were very average (even the 'Turkish' salad wasn't that flavorful). The two mains offered were better: a chicken dish that had a striking resemblance to tandoori chicken was good, as was a kofta mini-meatballs dish. The couple of vegetables on the buffet were ok, not great (stewed spinach and stewed okra). They did have baklava as the lone dessert option, but it had a virtually microscopic nut layer in it (quite odd) and was not that tasty. At least the cost was low for the buffet, so didn't feel robbed. Service was fine. So, overall, not a place we'd run back to for the buffet, but might be worth another try for ordering from the menu (which would have been possible for lunch).

We sat out on the patio one night in September. It seemed like a good idea except that it is a little alleyway close to another building with noisy window air conditioning units. Also, the seating was extremely uncomfortable. Old library style chairs around metal tables did not impress. Then, there was the food. When it finally arrived, the beef gyro was cold and tough, more closely resembling a jerky gyro. Final tip: there is no bar and the water is not regularly refilled.

Our kids, attending IU, told us about this place several years ago, and it's hard not to think of it on those times we're dropping off students after break, or picking up, or whatever. We'd like to visit Sofra more often than we have, because it's not that easy to find middle eastern food in this area.Finding parking is not easy right around this place. It's hard to decide what foods to speak about, because everything we've had there has been just fine to quite good. We've had lamb there, other kabob, lentils, good soup, decent rice side dish. THe people seem pretty nice. The wait staff do seem to often have a hard time getting the orders they take executed in an efficient manner by the kitchen. Every waitress or waiter we've had has really tried to make things right -- it's just sometimes slow service from the kitchen, even in a not busy time. The owners/managers do seem a bit lackadaisical at times -- polite, but just so RELAXED .... all the time the wait staff is really trying to take care of the customers. A casual atmosphere, and that kind of suits the ol' college town milieu.
