Reviews on Turkish food in Arnhem, Gelderland Province, The Netherlands. A sizable city in its own right, Arnhem is best known today as the site of one of the most famous battles of World War II. Given city rights in 1233, it has long been at the center of conflicts because of its strategic location on the banks of the Rhine River. The Battle of Arnhem, part of Operation Market Garden, was fought in September 1944. Advancing Allied forces, in large part due to a series of mistakes, failed to secure a key bridge and suffered defeat, delaying the Allied advance into Germany until the following spring. The 1977 movie "A Bridge Too Far" was based on the events here.

We want to celebrate a special event and decided to have a dinner at de Blauwe Hoek. Centrally in the lively Arnhem city part Spijkerkwartier. Blauwe Hoek offers Turkish food. It was all excellent, the appetizer, the entry, main dish and dessert/Turkish coffee. The portion are big but this doen not restrain the quality of the food. Meet, fish and grilled vegetables are top quality. Service is very personal. Many local visitors. The only critical comment might be a bit too much garlic. We recommend the three dishes menu for EUR 25. Prices of drinks are very affordable.

We were expecting a full English breakfast at this address but the English cafe had apparently been closed for 2 years. We were disappointed as our taste buds were ready for something familiar on that day. We decided to stay anyway instead of continuing our search. I ordered a Turkish coffee but really wasn't expecting much. We both ordered a tomato-based omelette and filled in our time on the free wifi. Breakfast arrived relatively quickly. Our initial disappointment vanished immediately. The coffee was wonderful and the food was delicious. It was so fresh, light and flavoursome. Not sure who was cooking in the kitchen but whoever it was, they were someone who loves and respects food. Thank you Sofra for a wonderful experience.
