The Blue Elephant Trail

Saturday evening and the place was packed. Typical West Hartford. Thankfully we prefer bar dining and scored two seats immediately. Service largely solid. A new bartender has taken over in recent months and seems to have a better understanding of quality service. Spring Rolls and Green Curry are our go-to's and each time are prepared consistently. An upgrade to their wine list would be fantastic - one can hope!

Sweet Chili

A neighbor told us about this restaurant and sung their praises.Empty restaurant on a Saturday night on a holiday weekend at 6:00 PM. Pleasant atmosphere with many tables and booths. Initially disappointed that the tea we ordered came without any tea in the teapot. Obviously they dunked a teabag in the pot and removed it quickly. After complaining the waiter returned with a second pot that was equally very light tea. We are used to being served Jasmine tea with loose tea.The "Gold Bags" appetizer was excellent as was the wonton soup. The most disappointing was the shrimp Pad Thai. While my lady liked the dish, I found the taste to be awful. When we received the bill we discovered that we were charged $4.00 for two cups of weak tea. The soup was $4.95. The Pad Thai entree was on the high side as well. Now while this is West Hartford it is also Park Avenue, not the Center it Nlie Back Square! We will not be returning anytime soon.

Hot Basil Thai Cafe

2 birthday girls wanted to go here, not the grandparents choice, but we agreed. The appetizer, (rangoon, wings, and even calamari were terrific. I should have stopped there! I had the beef basil thai fried rice and grandpa had the chicken. The kids and grandkids ordered their favorites and wither ate it ll or took leftovers home ( including mine!). Mostly rice, little meat, and not hot even ordered medium. I asked for a side of the wing sauce which was very testy (also $2.95 for a saucer!) to spice up the rice.very crowded, you should make a reservation.

Prai’s kitchen is the “new kid” in West Hartford Center’s restaurant lineup and, as we ventured to find out, worth a try. Praia Kitchen is located at 23 LaSalle Road. Remember the address because Prai’s exterior does nothing to catch your eye; it’s just quietly there. In fact, subtlety may be the catch word for this place. Step inside and you soon aware of Prai’s gentle quietude...the easy-going, friendly staff; the easy on the senses decor; the pleasant music in the background. What about the food, though, John? The food is the star of the experience. Thai cuisine is Thai and the offerings are delightful; I took a shot and tried their salmon curry and it was very tasty. My wife enjoyed her Pad Thai and was amazed at the amount of shrimp; in fact, I made the sacrifice and helped her finish it. Try this subtle little place, Prai’s Kithen, at 23 LaSalle Road in W.H. center. I think you’ll come away happier than when you arrived.
