Reviews on Thai food in Salem, Oregon, United States. Named from the anglicized form of the Hebrew word "shalom," meaning peace, Salem provides visitors with exactly that - plus a horde of historic sites to explore and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Oregon's capital, one of the oldest cities in the state, exudes simple, small-town hospitality with just enough politics and culture to keep things interesting. Tour the grand, gold-domed State Capitol to learn about the workings of the government, then head to the observation deck for a fantastic view of Salem and its surrounding area. Although the whole city is a living history lesson, brimming with old buildings and landmarks, the Mill Mission Museum is a definite standout. Art buffs should not miss the impressive Pacific Northwest collection at the Hallie Ford Art Museum. In between sights, take time to people watch or picnic at Bush's Pasture Park, or enjoy wine tasting at some of the local vineyards. Salem's idyllic setting, in the heart of the emerald Willamette Valley, coupled with its historic role as political hub for Oregon make it the perfect choice for a delightful and interesting weekend away.

Perhaps because Mina's Cafe' sits in a far corner of a rather forlorn strip mall, I'd discounted it upon countless passings-by. But as often's the case, looks can delude. I'm now kicking myself at all the great meals I've missed out on here before. The food is as fresh as can be, with an abundance of crispy and colorful vegetables. Nothing is over-cooked or over-sauced. In fact, her best sauces come on the side. Mina's peanut and curry sauces are so good that there's talk of bottling them. Perhaps the most delightful part of the cafe is Mina herself, a warm and funny woman with a passion for both people and her native food. You'd never suspect that this joyful woman carries such a terrifying history of her childhood immigration to the US. (You can read an excellent feature story about this by typing in "Mina" on the search bar of our local newspaper, the Statesman-Journal.) The cafe has several tables in three little cubby rooms for dining-in. Mina has done a nice job decorating the spaces. She also has a big following in take-out orders. Anyway, we'll soon be back to Mina's for more pad thai, fresh spring rolls and strawberry-banana fruit smoothies. I need to make up for lost time.

Great service. Had the massaman curry with lamb and the tom kha soup. Both were excellent. Highly recommend the lamb. Nicely spiced and tender. Goes well with the pinot noir.

Service was a little inconsistent, but it was lunchtime and crowed. Food was very tasty and we will try again sometime for dinner. If you want a more extended offering at lunch, ask for the dinner menu (we didn't even know there was one until after we'd been served lunch and another more familiar customer came in.) Also, the restaurant is small...very small, so be prepared to be crowed if more than 3 people are in your party.

The very best Thai food in Salem. Nothing cheap or rotten or bland like other Thai establishments. Wait time is good and staff are very helpful.
