Really cool little spot alone San Marcos Blvd. Very small probably only seats 15-20 but has a 70's sort of theme, with lots of pictures and posters. Had 4 different rolls and thought they were all good. Will return.
Apparently there are several Sushiya restaurants in the San Diego area but the one in San Marcos in the Kohl's/Walmart shopping center is where I had dinner. There were very few people in the restaurant because it was just 5PM. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the special Protein Roll for $15. This was quite tasty, served with an oil-based dressing on the side. I would have enjoyed this more if the silver dollar sized rolls had been normal, bite-sized rolls. Those silver dollar sized rolls are very difficult to eat and do not make for a relaxing experience. Still feeling the need to taste more fish, I ordered the stuffed tomato. A huge disappointment! I had a different sushi chef for this order so maybe that made the difference. There was no flavor to this dish whatsoever. Having eaten sushi since I was a kid (don't ask!), I know a thing or two about the taste, freshness, presentation, and cost of good sushi; so it needs to be top draw - meaning good fish as well as flavor! I have eaten here many times, mostly at the tables with family and friends. The stuffed tomato experience put me off so I am going searching of another quick fix, hole in the wall sushi place.

One of a few sushi/Japanese food restaurants open on Sunday so we stopped in. Had some noodles and a poke bowl which was surprisingly very good. The tempura was very small and not authentic, but did the job of filling us up. If ever in the area, we'll return.

We went to Ahi Sushi for some take out food. We ordered 5 rolls plus a "bento" box. Although the restaurant was quite busy for a mid Saturday afternoon, our food was prepared rather quickly. We took it home and enjoyed the delightful tastes on all of the items.

Very good Sushi, always fresh and tasty. They also offer other types of Japanize food. Near by shopping and only a block from the freeway.

A friend made the reservations and based on some of the reviews here, I wasn't sure what to expect. Bottom line, I thought it was pretty good, and I've been to a lot of similar restaurants (including ones in Japan). I wouldn't say it's the absolutely best teppanyaki I've ever had, but the food was certainly good and the prices are less than some of their chain competitors. Pros: Friendly staff, available seating (with reservation), good service, good food. The restaurant was quiet enough to talk which I appreciate, and the overall value was excellent. We had both sushi as an appetizer and a variety of teppanyaki dishes amongst the group, all good.Cons: Limited beer menu for a San Diego restaurant (though authentic to Japan). So hopefully more people will have the same experience I did and not like some of the others. To be fair, I've only had one meal here, so maybe it varies depending on the chef. But I certainly wasn't disappointed!

I went last night with my wife and niece. First of all the appetizer specials they have are ok. The edamame was not crunchy and a little soggy. The drinks they have are good especially with the nigori sake (they have a few) and the one we got was good... Scb creme de sake. Service at the bar was good and the bartender Henry was a cold dude and recommended some great sushi rolls. The two we had spicy mango roll and the el camaron roll were especially good... Almost like eating eating ceviche on a roll. Looking forward to going back.

Most Asian restaurants are heavy on the thick cornstarch gravy, but at Shogun Tappan Steak house and sushi bar they stick to a more classic approach of tempura and pot stickers fill with pork served with a dipping sauce. The problem with most strip mall restaurants with the Asian theme decor is trite, but here it is understated and more authentic than most. The host and Waiter "Mr. A" were efficient and helpful. It may be slightly more expensive that others in the neighborhood, but it is worth it.

Our family likes visiting here because the fish is fresh, there is a wide variety of creative rolls, and the menu offers something for those that love ramen and other non-raw choices. Everything we have tried there is tasty, but I would highly recommend: the PJ Roll for the delightful blend of cream cheese, sauces and delicate albacore (seriously, order two. we do); the Tuna Lovers since it has some nigiri, some sashimi and the Flamingo roll which is finished with this mouthwatering ponzu-based sauce; and any of the Ramen bowls, but double up on the noodles (because in our family those go quickly!)

Located in a strip mall with other food establishments, Love Boat Sushi is a favorite of one of my friends who brought me there. The sushi is prepared fresh and quickly, my noodles were tasty and hot. Prices are very reasonable and the staff was very friendly.
