I visited Zen tonight with my wife on a recommendation from a friend. I'm glad we did. This place has been barely advertised but I knew it was open. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, as I said, somewhat upscale. My wife ordered a shrimp egg roll that she deemed average. She also ordered the Double Crown which she deemed fantasic. Shrimp cooked in a walnut sauce with chicken in a type of honey barbecue sauce. Nice portion I ordered the Spicy Combination sushi which came with a nicely dressed salad and a bowl of Sweet and Hot soup which was to die for. The sushi was not very spicy but was very fresh and tasty. It came with 3 different rolls all excellent! Don't look at the sign and say that we should go there, just pull in and try it.

The folks who work at this location have always been high caliber and the food presented in a very pleasing and delectable manner. My reason for only 4 stars is due to the experience below. I recently placed a take away order and arrived a few minutes early for the pick up. I donât mind waiting, however on this occasion my order was brought to the counter and the clerk was too busy on her cell phone to take notice. So as I waited, she seemed to be deep in concentration on something other than her work. After several additional minutes and a conversation she had with another employee, she finally noticed that my order was there and she took action to check me out. I would have said something, but I actually wasnât sure that the order was mine, not sure that it was my place to prompt her to address the customer vs her phone.

Our 2nd time here and I wasn't impressed. I ordered the sashimi dinner platter with miso soup again. I wasn't crazy about the snapper the first time around because it was the only fish in that platter that wasn't melt-in-your-mouth but it was ok (just the way that particular fish was). However, this time the snapper tasted a tad fishy (a 2 in a scale of 1-10). As for hubby's sushi platter, I should have paid more attention when he was ordering (my bad). We liked the nigiri selections but too many California rolls didn't do anything for us. Two would have been plenty enough and the rest should have been some other uramaki. Service was very good as usual.
