And it wasn't bad... but it's a small restaurant, and the menu is REALLY limited. The nigiri was good and I'm really glad I got it... because the Dan Dan Noodles, even though they made them mild for me, was still just too hot - (I knew better). Was kind of disappointed that the shrimp fried rice had such tiny flavorless shrimp in it. Admittedly my review is colored by other high-end asian restaurants I've been to - but I just kind of thought it would be better than my local options.

This cozy corner is the first bistro-style restaurant you encounter after stepping off the escalator on the third level of the Playground Pier building along Atlantic City’s boardwalk. In addition to the round-the-bar seating, one can choose to sit in any of the comfortable cushioned chairs along the windows which offer a fine southern view of the beach, boardwalk and casino hotels. After a cordial greeting by Amanda, who took me to my seating, Amy came over to ask if I wished anything to drink. After taking my request, she left to allow me a few moments to peruse the menu. During my stay Amy was courteously attentive yet did not hover. On this visit I started off with their tasty Miso Soup. I then selected a bottle of Ozeki – Nigori sake, a full-bodied unfiltered (aka cloudy) sake to accompany my Sushi and Sashimi order which included Ahi tuna, seared tuna (delectably spicy), white tuna, salmon, mackerel yellowtail, crabstick and shrimp. The food presentation was pleasing to the eye – it made me think of a color palette, waiting to be dipped into. One extra touch was the pickled shallots which delighted my taste buds by the delicacy of the flavor and fine texture. Frankly, I enjoyed it so much, I ordered seconds! The fine edges of the sliced fresh seafood and smooth texture immediately let me know the Itamae* had his own personal set of knives. I soon discovered John has been preparing sushi and sashimi for over 18 years and has quick, steady hands while deftly slicing the fish, eel and octopus for the plate. I’m pleased to recommend Souzai Sushi & Sake for those seeking a bit of tasty, enjoyable R&R. My only suggestion is for management: check the window seats’ cushions more often for replacement or washing as the steady flow of diners off the boardwalk tend to scuff them up, increasing wear and tear. * Itamae = sushi chef. In the western world, the alternate term of "sushi chef" is popularly used. In Japan, becoming an itamae of sushi requires years of training and apprenticeship.

Where do I begin? This place surpassed my expectations. Our server Tracy was perfect. She guided us through the menu and gave great suggestions. We ordered 5 small plates, 2 maki rolls, dessert and cocktails. All I can say is FLAVOR TOWN!!! Presentation of food A+; Flavors were outstanding and the concept makes for a fun night of trying new things and experiencing different flavors. They encourage you to order from each section of the menu to have a tasting of everything and so the meal progresses in a certain way. When dishes are done they just come right out so you never know what you're going to get first. We started with the CRISPY BRUSSEL SPROUTS and let me just say, I'll never look at Brussels the same way....they were crispy, sweet, savory, salty and everything in between. DELICIOUS!Next were the WAGYU BEEF TACOS. My only complaint is that they are so tiny and leave you wanting more. The portion is 2 mini tacos and trust me you'll want more because the flavors explode in your mouth. WOW!Following the tacos were the SHRIMP TEMPURA with Garlic Aioli. Crispy, tender shrimp with a decadent creamy aioli and flavors of key lime. YUM!The last 2 small plates were CORN “MEKISHIKO” and BEEF NEGIMA from the Robata Charcoal Grill section of the menu. These two items were quite possibly our favorites. The corn is little baby corn like you've never had before. It was the most interesting complex combination of flavors including freshly grated parmesan and delicious aioli. It's like the Japanese version of Mexican Street Corn or Elote. INSANE! Then came the Beef Negima which was the most tender yakitori literally bursting with flavor. It was unreal! We finished dinner with 2 maki rolls...spicy tuna and salmon avocado. We are sushi snobs so although this was very good and fresh tasting, my husband and I agreed we'd had better and would skip the sushi next time. In comparison to the small plates, the sushi just didn't stand out. They do however serve housemade Soy Sauce which I thought was super cool and different. As full as we were, we had to try the donuts for dessert and boy are we glad we did. Light and Airy Cinnamon Sugar Japanese Donuts served with Chocolate, PB and Green Tea Sauces for dipping. Absolutely divine! This was our very last dinner of our trip and we left this meal uber satisfied and in awe that a Japanese restaurant would steal the spot as our new # 1. Can't wait to return!! Already requested we go back for my Birthday in September. I'm dying to try the Short Rib as I've heard its so tender you can eat it with chopsticks!!!Dear tdcohnmasi77: Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience from your recent visit to Kuro inside Hard Rock Atlantic City. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed your meal, especially the crispy Brussel Sprouts, Wagyu Beef Tacos, Shrimp Tempura, and Corn and Beeg Negima! Please know we take all guest feedback very seriously, and your review has been shared with our Food & Beverage management team so they are aware of your happy experience. We hope to welcome you back soon!

Had the seafood special, but unfortunately they used imitation crab instead of the real thing. Very disappointed and very tasteless. The shrimp were good. The vegetables were done just right. Lo mein also did not have much flavor. Service was good. Perhaps if you order something without the crab you would be more pleased with the food.

Izakaya in Borgata Hotel

The space is very seductive. The food is good not extraordinary. Attentive service. It’s a good option for something more than casual at Borgata. The server spilled my drink upon service all over the counter and did not offer a replacement. The server should have been more educated regarding the menu. Seems she was only interested in what her options should have been . All and all the food was good , we were not there for the Monday special , it’s high end in pricing during normal operation.

Called for a sushi/sashimi platter and a few extras for take-out. The presentation was very nice, and the portion was more than I expected for three of us. Ma was very pleased to join us in enjoying their food. I can tell when seafood is very fresh, and theirs certainly was. A worthwhile stop whether you're a local or a traveller.
