The High Country's Premier Steak and Seafood Restaurant for over 30 years. Featuring an award wining wine list, regional beers and craft cocktails. Indoor and covered outdoor seating available. Private room available for events.
I'll have to say that we enjoyed our dining here a lot. The atmosphere is nice and despite what we had read, the vast majority of people were dressed quite casually. It didn't feel like an upscale, up Market restaurant that we were out of class in. Our server, Heather, really made the meal exceptional. She was friendly, very professional, made recommendations when asked and make sure that the meal flowed perfectly. Each course from the James River oysters to the roasted beetroot and feta salad, to the prime rib was presented well, had great blendings of flavors, and the right proportion. We ended the meal with a sweet potato pie - a nightly special that was a creation of the chef. Really liked it as it was not overly sweet and not overly heavy, but the perfect ending to the meal.Thank you for your recent visit and your kind words. We look forward to serving you again in the near future.

We were very happy to learn that our dog is now accepted on the resort grounds. On a slow Monday afternoon, sat outside for lunch, and were greeted by Berlyn, our server. Downhill from there. Slow to bring cocktails; thereafter, we ordered lunch. After awhile, she returned and asked if we wanted anything else. We noted that we were awaiting our lunch. Oh, she would go check on it. She returned and noted that the staff had dropped it on the floor, and had to remake it. Lunch finally came; food was good.We ordered a second drink; when she returned with the drink order, she noted that my beer was the end of the tapper. It was 2/3 full. WHAT!!When the bill came, there was no comp for the wait time, nor the partially full beer. The tip matched the service.Thank you for taking the to leave your feedback, Tom. We take our reviews very seriously as we use them to improve our guest's experience. We would first like to apologize for your substandard dining experience. You have raised some valid concerns and we've passed these concerns along to the appropriate manager to act accordingly. We're also aware of your correspondence with our General Manager. Here at The Peddler Steak House it is all about the steak! At The Peddler Steakhouse, you will see your Ribeye custom cut right at your table! The Ribeye is The Peddler's signature steak and is always cooked to perfection! If you are not in a Ribeye kind
For some time we had heard and read many positive opinions about the Peddler, but for some reason we had never dined there urntil last night. I guess we had high expectations but we were somewhat disappointed. We did not have a reservation so we arrived relatively early, about 5:30 PM, and were seated right away at a quiet table near the back. Our drink order was taken immediately. My lady had to take a cell phone call, and while she was tied up with that, we were twice approached by the waitstaff for our order. Come on, people! How about some sensitivity? After she freed up we both ordered the Peddler ribeye steak which is cut off the slab on a cart right before your eyes. My side was onion rings and her sides were green beans and a loaded baked potato. All entree orders include the Peddler salad bar and the soup of the day, which was French onion. The salad bar and the soup were excellent, rave-worthy. Note that the soup changes daily so you might want to call ahead and inquire what it is.Unfortunately our steaks were unremarkable, and for $27 each, we expected better. I can buy a more flavorful, more tender steak for much less at my local chain supermarket and broil it to perfection. Perhaps we just lucked into a flavorless side of beef on this occasion, that is not typical here. I hope so.As for the sides, my onion rings were the same previously-frozen rings you can get at fast food purveyors. In fact, the rings are better at BK. My lady liked her potato but said her green beans were just okay.In summary, we didn't feel we received adequate value for our $90 (including tip). To be fair, the table service was good except for interrupting the phone call twice. I am not saying we won't give the Peddler another shot, but it won't be soon and we will probably order something different.
