I wish I had better things to say. Our first clue should have been there were two other cars there at 9PM. The place should have been busier. We were starving, so why not? The second warning sign was the table, just shy of the waiting area, full of employees eating. They deserve a break, and earned it - I'm sure, but really guys...shamelessly grubbing in front of customers? C'mon man. The food took quite a while to come out and was, in all honesty, below average. The fries were cold, and drenched in grease. My steak was a bit tough, even when done med/rare. Yet another clue: Our server asked if I wanted steak sauce for my NY strip. A valid question at a diner, but a "steakhouse"? Then - she was SURPRISED when I didn't want it!! DANGER ZONE! At the end of our meal, when asked, i said the food was ok. She was surprised, and asked, "Really? You can be honest with me." That pretty much sealed it. On the way out: more employees hanging out on the front porch smoking. I will say this however: our server, was very friendly, prompt with her service (though the food took forever) and seemed to care about how she was doing. Skip this place.
The dining options in Troy are limited on the best of days, and on Sundays are very limited, so when my daughter suggested we eat at Preston's I was curious to say the least. I've reviewed the TA pages for Troy many times and didn't recall that name, but she said it was a steakhouse so I was game. Following my daughters directions I went south on 231 and turned where she told me.....into a Gas Station parking lot. I was hesitant, and asked if it was around back and she explained that it was in the gas station. Oh boy, I'm thinking. Apparently Preston's took over one of those locations where a fast food restaurant is located in a Gas Station, so the ambiance is definitely no higher than a C, but the staff are extremely friendly (as they are every where in Troy) and even though there is a counter from the locations prior life, table service is the order of the day, and the menu is a full steak house menu with everything from chops, burgers, ribs, steaks and salads, and everything we had was top shelf. The steak tips were perfect, well marinated and served medium rare as requested (very hard to do with tips), the side dishes were prize worthy, from Sweet Potato waffle fries, to fired green beans and grilled asparagus everything could have been proud to be served in a linen table cloth setting. Preston's in that location is truly hiding, and it aught not to be, as it is a fine place, with good food and good service, in a town that needs more dining options. I hope they find a way to bring the business in, it's truly worth it.
What a great place in a small southern town! Typical Japanese with hibachi tables. This place is popular and great food. Wonderful presentation with all of the traditional Japanese flips, stunts, fires, and smoking onion volcanos. Visited here for a special occasion and we were very pleased, Our party ordered steak, shrimp, and chicken. All, with the accompanying vegetables and rice, and "yum-yum sauce", was outstanding. We also ordered the "pineapple boat and picture" to document our visit. Make reservations!
