Spain is famous for its seafood but it does meat incredibly well too. This is a proper "meat cooked over coals" place with a choice of cooking it yourself on a small table topped fire or by the chef over the big indoor grill. Suckling lamb chops and kebabs were great - with local red wine. All else looked just as good. All meat comes cooked rare, including the pork, so ask if you want it medium, etc.

We were actually on our way to Crabbys. However, contrary to what is stated, Crabby was not open on sunday night. As we had seen that there were a few restaurants open, we parked and were initially going to go to Sotavento. As we walked towards Sotavento, we looked at this place and noted that they served argentinian food. As we lived in Buenos Aires for a few years, we decided to give it a go. And, we were very pleasantly surprised. The waitress was the ownerâs daughter and both were from Argentina. And while the menu was limited, the food was as close as you could get to local cuisine in Buenos Aires. In the market for some argentine style empanadas, go no further. They were delicious. We had the beef milanesa, and it was also good and close to the Buenos Aires version. Wrth the stumble!

Restaurante de cocina local y estacional, con gran dominio de la parrilla y conocimiento del producto.
We have been many times for lunch and dinner to this restaurant. The owner/chef and his wife always make us very welcome. There is a wide selection to choose from, very good beef and fish dishes as well as tapas.

Eating in Spain is always a challenge because (a) you must wait until you are nearly dead of starvation before they will feed you at, say, 9.30 or 10 p.m. and (b) the cuisine is generally mysterious and terrible. (I also have doubts about the hygienic conditions of Spanish restaurant kitchens.) The only alternatives are Burger King (which is a big improvement over the local fare) or Argentine steak houses. Fortunately there are two such in El Puerto de Santa Maria, and one of them is El Gaucho. I have lived in Argentina and can attest to the quality of the food and service here--and they will let you eat before 9 p.m. too! The meat is, of course, imported from Argentina. The owner personally served us and made sure it was just to our liking (he was not offended when I asked for more fire on my steak, as often happens in such places). Even the bread and butter was good. The atmosphere here is very similar to Punta del Este, Uruguay, another upscale beach town which I know well. El Gaucho is located in the very posh suburb of Vista Hermosa. No need to worry about parking, there is plenty on the street. By the way, El Gaucho is open every day of the year.
