First impressions: The pub is nicely laid out, clean, yet strangely quiet/empty.We were worried that this was a sign of the quality of food or service. After reading over the menu, we were surprised at how cheap everything was. This too made us wonder about the quality of the food or service. No one greeted us or came to our table, which I assume is normal here, so we went up to the bar to order. We were a party of 3 and all ordered separate mains. We placed our order, ensuring that the '2 mains for 8.99' deal was in fact accurate (it was), took our drinks and waited. In what seemed like no time at all, 3 main meals and 2 sides appeared. The steak/meal was served on a wooden paddle with a sizzling hot skillet, meaning everything was kept nice and hot. The steak perfectly matched the requested type and exceeded expectations on flavour. The topped waffle fries with burnt ends beef was also fantastic (the Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce is a nice bonus.)The fish and chips were also great, with no bones or nasty parts to be seen. The onion ring stack side order (20 rings) was also a fantastic addition for an excellent price, coming with 4 different dips. The final main, Louisiana style chicken strips with chips and heaps of nacho cheese sauce was brilliant. Perfect for a fussy eater, especially as nacho cheese seems to be incredibly hard for most people to get 'right'.All staff we interacted with were nice, helpful and left us extremely happy. We came in not expecting very much, but left with a new favourite pub to eat in whenever we are near Burton. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back again.

Booked in advance and greeted at the door by a sign saying the card machine wasnât working. We were acknowledged after a few minutes and established that the card machine âmightâ be working as it was intermittent. I did not want to end up being held to ransom at the end of the meal as I knew I didnât have sufficient cash with me and was advised it was possible to do a manual card transaction. We were then seated and this is where the terrible service began. At least 15mins passed before our drinks order was taken. A further 15mins the waitress came back to take our food order. It was as if she had never seen the menu, was completely unaware of any possibility to substitute sides and clueless. Of course, none of this her fault if no training had been given. I asked for her to chase our drinks order, which had still not arrived, and got a lesson from her in the ordering process. Our drinks were now on the end of the bar and I suspect the majority of staff underage to handle alcohol hence the delay. Food arrived 40mins after order. Piping hot but the substitution I had asked for was none existent with no explanation. Two dishes were burgers and for the price the portions were paltry. Chicken dishes were over cooked but we had waited so long we tucked in. No one checked in on us until the majority of the table had finished our meals. It wasnât inedible but Iâve certainly had better. At home. We ordered more drinks and it was another painful wait. The drinks eventually arrived, all empty glasses were left on the table. When the waitress (now the 5th member of staff to serve at our table) came to clear the plates she couldnât be bothered to walk around to my side of the table again and actually held her hand out for me to pass it over. We did not have dessert or coffee. It had now taken almost 2hours for one course and we had had enough. Between all of this we noticed members of staff that had previously been waiting on were now working in the kitchen (glass panel with full visibility) and they did not have hats or hair nets on. Our original waitress left without advising us of our new server. Some other tables were complaining to staff. There was a crash in the kitchen and one of the screens fell at a precarious angle. None of these issues promoting a positive message to patrons. All in all this place is clearly in turmoil. Staff are in desperate need of training and it clearly shows. Unprofessional service, complete lack of organisation and overpriced food. Will definitely not return.

Our first visit and on a busy Saturday night. Table was booked for 20.30 but we didnât eat a thing until 21.45. Waitress was lovely and apologised and gave us a round of drinks on the house without us asking for anything which was very nice of her.Good things - lovely waitress, food was amazing, nice bustling atmosphere. Not so good things - Long wait, expensiveAnd whats the lettuce wedge all about ? Donât quite get that Love your review, Thank you for so honest comment and we are so sorry about wait, but Saturday night is really hard for us and we try make everyone happy. And the lettuce wedge originally came from an old America steak house back in 1950s. We've put our own twist on it, as it use to be served plain. The lettuce Wedge is a refreshing accompaniment that compliments the rich flavours of the steak.
