Tucked into a shopping center between a dry cleaners & a beauty shop (and not too far from the Canal barrio) is this large, clean well-lit place with a pretty extensive straight-from-Mexico menu.Tacos (of course), big fat burritos, great dinner plates, a nice little salsa bar - and lots and lots of local Mexican & Chicano families enjoying super authentic food!I'm a believer!

Enjoyed a crazy-good lunch here last Saturday, taking a break from the Italian Street Painting Festival. Growing up with Sicilian-style tripe, I have pretty high expectations for flavor and chewiness. My dish of the Cau Cau tripe stew was a wonderful melange of flavors and quite easy to eat. My mate very much enjoyed his Papa Rellena. Friendly and welcoming staff. This place is, at least at weekend lunch time, an unpretentious and undiscovered gem.

This is a small local restaurant with really good salsa and food. The people were very pleasant and accomodating and I loved the carnitas (my personal favorite). I will be going back when I visit here.

Picante is a wonderful casual, but nice, Mexican restaurant. It has great people, great food, good low prices, and an authentic atmosphere. I promise you will love Picante. There are other good places, but Picante is unique for a nice atmosphere, great food, and nice people.

I have been here many times. The food is consistently great. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and they have a cozy outside deck with plants (a banana tree) and colorful mosaics. The service is excellent and the chef/owner Bill is a really great guy and always welcoming. This is one of my favorite places to eat. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I dated here in 2001 and ate there this afternoon. It is still just as charming and friendly as it was back then and they have more tables with umbrellas out in the patio since that time. Food was good. Husband had the Chili Mañana and loved it (chili rellano in a green sauce). I had a tamale a la carte and it was very good except that I would like to suggest to the chef that since corn meal is dry by nature, he/she really needs to be more liberal with the sauce on the tamale. It was very dry. The restaurant had gotten busy so instead of asking for more sauce I used their 'salsa' which is very good but not a tamale sauce. I don't mean the chicken, I mean the sauce. Service was good and pleasant.
