Reviews on Spanish food in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. A stronghold of Mayan culture, San Cristóbal’s colonial stucco walls and Spanish tile roofs contrast with the surrounding villages, which remain home to an array of Mayan-descendant Indians. The city itself is a delight. Paired with the cultural diversity surrounding it, there’s nothing like it in Mexico.

I've enjoyed both lunch and dinner at Mesa Madre this week and both meals were fantastic. The cozy space makes this a true private dining experience. Prices are very reasonable compared to other top-tier restaurants in town. It's a great choice for seafood, and the chef's counter experience is lots of fun.

The place looked nice in the middle of an artisanal shopping arcade but the food was poor and the service worse. To be avoided...

Really liked the vibe of this place. They have live marimba music and folklórico dances (check days and times). The decor is interesting with even a tribute to Zapatista movement in back room. There is a store where you can buy local products. The waiters dress in traditional clothing. Everyone was pleased with their food. We ordered a 2 person grill, bread soup, chicken and beef. The beef was tough but it was call Torito and I expected it to be a little tough. They do suggest a 10% tip, which is a little pretentious, but given they cater to many tourists, may be less than what they may expect to pay. Overall, a very good experience, and will be back to see the dances.

Visited twice in October 2014. Was intrigued by the Mezcal Ice Cream the first time and so just had that for a snack (blueberry & coconut both recommended!)The second visit was brought on by the fact that I saw they did Chapaulines which I hadn't yet had. I ate the Chapauline Taquitos and a shot of Mezcal which was free because of a promotional voucher. The taquitos were delicious and came with the most amazing Guacamole I have ever had! They were hot and tasted fresh. Pretty sure the food was only MXP 55 which was good value. I would highly recommend this place!

Reasonably priced (MX$20-50) , good quality wines by the glass or by the bottle 250 plus. Glasses come with tapas, bottles with a plate of tapas. Other food is available an dthe baguettes are terrific.Great friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Have visited twice so far and will doubtless return during the rest of our week here. There are many overpriced place in San Cristóbal, this is not one of them. Highly recommended!

This place is truly great! The good is local, simple, and very well prepared. The menu is small but very good and only local fresh ingredients used. Prices are exceedingly reasonable and the staff is happy, friendly, and relaxed. Coffees are terrific. I had lunch there and went back for dinner to further explore their menu and I was not disappointed.
