Established in 1996 on historic Sixth Street the Iron Cactus Mexican Restaurant, Grill and Margarita Bar has been serving contemporary Mexican food for over 20 years. We draw our inspiration for our cuisine from various regions in Mexico. The Iron Cactus
We recently hosted a Happy Hour at the Iron Cactus in San Antonio. During the planning phase, the store manager David was responsive and helped answer any questions I had. This was important, as I was planning this event from another City. I was unable to visit the restaurant in person or attend the event, however after conducting with internal employees who did attend, here's our overall impression of the Iron Cactus:Our team had wonderful things to say about the staff at Iron Cactus. Thank yâall so much for taking care of us and helping us show our clients a good time! One of our employees even said yâall had the BEST margarita heâs ever had! I would definitely recommend the Iron Cactus for any corporate gathering or event. Thanks again for your service and hospitality!

We brought our friends from Romania here for a classic San Antonio experience. The wait was long as expected since we had a larger party, but the inside decor met expectations. The food is reasonably priced and authentic, but donât expect gourmet eclectic. You are there for the atmosphere.

Located just a few minutes from downtown in architecturally rich Monte Vista, La Fonda on Main is the oldest Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio. La Fonda serves both the best of Tex-Mex cuisine as well as authentic dishes of interior Mexico in a fun a
Visited here with my partner as we wanted a to try tex mex and were recommended La Fonda. Honestly we were both very underwhelmed, it was pretty average food with mediocre service. We had booked a table so were shown straight there and given menus, the wait staff were quite busy but we had to wait quite a while for water and to order some drinks. The server was nice and did give some recommendations of what to have, I had ceviche for starter. It was nice but quite bland really, Iâve had way nicer from other restaurants in SA. For main I had the La Fonda special, I wanted to try a mix of flavours and items. Again it was just a bit average, tasty to a point but nothing really special about it. No spiciness or specific flavours that stood out for me. It wasnât bad but just meh. My partner was also left without a fork for 10 mins when his main was delivered, so we had to wait for that before we could start, then the server also forgot his second beer. Not altogether the experience I was expecting! I know itâs not fine dining, itâs family style eating in a casual restaurant. The atmosphere was really nice, but for me it was the flavours and service that disappointed, they just werenât up to much.

We walked from The Alamo to Peteâs for the puffy tacos....and the entire meal was well worth the walk in the feels like 105 heat!!! We started with the queso which was sooooo good!!! It had guacamole, onions and tomatoes in it and the chips were fresh and homemade. We then had chicken and beef puffy tacos with regrows beans and rice....DELISH!!!! We also had a chili relleno which was out of this world good!!! Our service was excellent as our drinks were constantly replenished (which we needed the H2O after walking in that heat!!!) and chips were refilled. It was a great experience and we will be back when we are in the area again!!!

We visited this restaurant for breakfast. When we arrived, we were greeted and immediately they sat us down, even though the restaurant was busy. My wife and I ordered the Machacado and it was delicious. Our children ordered the enchiladas and the barbacoa tacos and they loved the taste. Our waitress was courteous and took care of us, our coffee cups were never empty. Once we placed our order, the food came within 10 minutes. We thought it was gonna be longer since the restaurant was full, but that was not the case. I recommend this place to everyone visiting the River walk.
