Things to do in Guadalupe

We had just visited the monastery and were , tired, hungry and thirsty. We had started down to the car which we had parked below and decided to stop at this restaurant in the curve of the road. We were the only customers at the tables outside , although there were a couple of locals in the bar. The Restaurante misted us to keep cool, which was very nice during the heat wave in which we were in Spain. I know there have been complaints about service, but we had none. Our waiter kept tabs on us and fed and watered us appropriately. We had boccadillos which are sandwiches on very large (8 inches or more) rolls. My partner had artichoke and sardine which was different and he enjoyed it. I was more routine and had chicken. They offered me mayonnaise before I had a chance to ask for it. ( they can be served dry.). It was actually quite tasty and filling. It was a lovely stop for us and a welcome chance to sit and recharge.
This place was a real find and deserves a very high rating on trip advisor. The decor, atmosphere and service were excellent. It appears to be frequented only by locals and the prices reflect that. Would highly recommend if you want to get away from the touristy places.

This café â restaurant you will find on the first parking spot on your left, this before you are reaching the centre of the village of Guadalupe. We parked there our car on this location to have a stopover and to walk from here to the Monastery, which will take you about 5 minute, so we took two coffees and overlooked in the meantime the inside. We can say that it is a cosy location, fine and very clean, also the toilets. The service is very friendly and we are sure that you will get good food for a very reasonable price, this in comparison to the cafés and restaurants on the âPlaza de Santa Maria de Guadalupeâ in front of the Monastery, who are more âTouristâ traps.

The Hospederia's restaurant is overlooked by many of the visitors to the Monastery... and that's a shame. The menu offers more than the Parador around the corner and the quality of cooking and presentation fully matches that of its rival in town. The setting is magnificent. The Hospederia (monastery lodgings -- see separate review) adjoins the cloister and retains the Mudajar and Gothic lines of architecture. The outer eating area is along a cloister wall and overlooks a quiet courtyard. This is where people assemble for tapas, drinks, coffees and teas. You can also dine here, if you don't mind the smokers. If not, pop indoors for its air conditioned, and quiet, luxury. The setting is inviting with well spaced tables set with good quality napery and tableware. The menu is vast. It has some fixed menus (seasonal at Euros 15, more complicated at Euros 17 to 22). The a la carte menu offers a good range of local starters, celebrating Extramaduran fare, a theme followed closely in the mains section. Both milk-fed kid and lamb feature here, the latter served with honey, and local specialties like migas and caldareta are not forgotten. The range of desserts and seasonal fresh fruit is much wider than the Paradors.Produce selected by the chef is fresh and seasonal. Presentation is half way between traditional and modern -- which means that portions are big, possibly meant for sharing, but nicely arranged on the platter.Service is efficient and generally pleasant. But when things get busy the wait staff have little time for chatting and explaining. They smile, explain, and then get back to the job.The wine list is comprehensive and again beats its closest competition by inviting diners to sample local wines (hint: try the excellent "Habla" range for both single varietals and also blends). The prices are modest. Another compelling reason to relax in these delightful surroundings.

Enjoy simple local cuisine. Monastic cod, Extremadura ajo blanco (almond and garlic gazpacho), Extremadura migas, Iberian sausages, lamb stew, chestnut pudding, Guadalupe muégano cookie. Savour the simple local cuisine and bon appétit!
Very nice traditional area food. We tried the meat and it was very well done and good quality. The desserts where amazing and very typicall from that area wich is great to try!! The restaurant is a cozy place with great views of an interior beautiful patio. Dear customer, Thank you for sharing your experience about your stay in our establishment, we will reach the staff reviews and hope to see you again very soon in the Parador de Guadalupe.Kindest regards,

First - don't rely on google maps for this as they are wrong- it is on the comer or main square tucked away. We chose this one on the basis of reviews but were disappointed. Having walked the gauntlet of all the other waiters of the other restaurants hassling you to choose them we eventually found this. I had ensalada mixta which was v average but huge, then I had Lubina with sweet onions on top and that was delicious, for desert chose peaches and was disappointed to see they were just tinned peaches. Husband had revuelta which had green beans instead of the asparagus quoted and the beans were undercooked, he then had trout cooked in ham and he thought that was just ok, after he arroz con leche which wAs way too watery/liquid. So all in all food disappointing.

Went to the bar which was busy and friendly. Asked for a table in the dining room. It was cold so every attempt was made to light the heater. Success after numerous attempts. Our patience was rewarded. We - only diners - were looked after splendidly. Food was excellent and the hosts made it an unforgettable experience.
