This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge and we were not disappointed! The drive up to the location is pleasant and scenic. We ordered bread and shared a dish of baked ham and artichokes which were delicious. Another dish that was enjoyed was of tiny sausages. The service was attentive. To clap everything off, this is a beautiful village to wander through.

Very cheap and the food is much better than other places more expensive. Extremely recommended for lunch menu, there are really good plates for around 10⬠per person.

It is great to sit outside and enjoy typical food from region such as cabrito. Kids like it too in grassy area.

We went with my wife, we were lucky to be able to reserve a table, only one left was in the garden....but I think it was the best! Pampered by a light fresh breeze and nice shadow , it was a perfect spot to enjoy the lamb leg and ribs we ordered, very well prepared, juicy and soft. We did not enjoy too much the croquets but the gazpacho was excellent. The service was great, the waitresses while clearly overloaded never stopped smiling and being accommodating. We will definitely come back.

I sit at my table about to get up and have the urge to share the fantastic experience. I'm of he theory of LESS is MORE and Juan Carlo's green beens as a starter and his grill deer venison was absolutely unmatchable. I don't have a sweet tooth yet tried their orange jelly....WOW! how did They figure this one out...All seasoned with superb suggestions, attention and absolute attentiveness form Carmen and of- course Juan Carlos singing in the kitchen "jotas" as he cleaned to get ready for tonight.I'll be back

We read the review on this site of Casa Pepe and were looking forward to eating there -- especially as the first night we went, it was closed. We were very disappointed from the outset. We ordered three dishes and said we wanted to share them. To our surprise and annoyance they arrived in a sequence, rather than together, as we had expected. However, leaving such matters aside, the food was uniformly tired and lacklustre. The first dish was a soup of beans with chorizo. I can only imagine that it had been either deep frozen and then brought back to the boil, or that it had been cooked perhaps several days earlier and then reheated. It was slightly tasty -- it's hard to avoid that with chorizo, as this sausage is so very flavoursome. But it was poor, like a school-dinners version of the dish, judias. blancas. The next dish was pulpo a la gallego. This is an extremely simple dish -- octopus, paprika and olive oil, ie, it has very very little to flavour it, so it must be freshly cooked to be any good. This octopus tasted reheated, but the worst thing was the extraordinary amount of salt that had been used. I suspect that it had been cooked, and salted at that point, and then, at the point of being reheated, extra salt added. I can't be sure, obviously, but it was only just edible, really, really bad. Lastly, we had a dish of stuffed red peppers. This was passable, just about, but very poor indeed. The peppers came in a kind of brown gloop tasting slightly of prawns, and the stuffing contained some indeterminate meat, possibly minced chicken. This wasn't the worst meal we had on holiday, hence two stars instead of one, but it was extremely disappointing. I'm sorry to give this such a bad review, but, if you're staying in this charming town, by the fantastic Sierra de Gredos, you would be better off eating fresh bread and Spanish cheese, or as we did on another night, having a simple plate of morcilla and a plate of manchego in a bar in the other main square. Much jollier, and tastier.

We first stopped by here for afternoon drinks and were impressed by the place, on a top of a hill, next to a monastery. Lunch / brunch next day was a disappointment - the salad was not chopped at all, the appetizer chicken was almost like KFC...and so super expensive for a restaurant in Spanish countryside - main courses up to 40 euros! My suggestion is to eat elsewhere and enjoy the beautiful terrace & views for lazy afternoon drinks.Dear visitor, we are sorry that you could not enjoy the food in "El Refugio de Chilla" besides having a refreshment. I think you did not know what to ask for, perhaps not speaking Spanish. The main dish to which alludes 40 euros, is a large steak to share between two people. None of our main courses exceeds 20 euros. The chicken to which you make mention is thought mainly as a dish for children, although many adults ask for it and they love it.Gastrosaludos de todo el equipo de "El Refugio de Chilla".
