Don Juan is a small local restaurant in the Valley section of West Orange with parking on the street (usually not a problem). It is not really a Mexican restaurant in the true sense of the word though there are some dishes (tacos, enchiladas) that most would identify as such. The food is what I would characterize as pan-Central American. My favorites are the tostones with guacamole appetizer, camarones al ajillo (shrimp in garlic), and casado tico al gusto (a platter with rice, beans, plantains, and choice of meat/chicken). This is not haute cuisine by any means, but it is both good and authentic and relatively inexpensive. They do now serve alcohol (a cold Modelo goes well with these dishes). The service can be a bit slow sometimes, but I have never experienced that to the point that it was bothersome. I would recommend Don Juan if you are in the area and would like a taste of Latin America at a reasonable price.

This place is great! I came here for lunch back in October and it was an awesome experience. I had never had food from El Salvador before so I got a variety plate and I was very, very glad i did; the plantains, papusas, steak, rice, and eggs were amazing and so very flavorful. The food is also ridiculously filling and you get so much food for the price. Everyone in my group was in a food coma afterwards and we loved coming here!

We've been to Palacio del Pollo several times and enjoy the food there. Your best bet is their chicken (available only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), cooked to perfection and very tasty. The best beef option we've tried is the bistec, NOT the baby churrasco. The bistec is tastier and better cooked. The white bean side is more of a soupy but tasty accompaniment to the meal. You can order by pointing to the menu items which have descriptions. There was only one fluent English speaker when we visited but everyone gets by just fine.
