Things to do in Mompos
I went with my family to have lunch because a neighbor back home recommended this place to us. The place and the decoration is beautiful you can tell from the outside is a fancy restaurant or sort of, but the truth is they can improve; starting from the plates, they were regular food with not so tasty flavor, the presentation was terrible, the bread was regular bread cutted in two, even the salt and the ketchup were in plastic pot/ bags. They have potential, too sad.
What to do and see in Mompos, Colombia: The Best Places and Tips
Beraca restaurant has a natural environment, exquisite dishes and direct view of a tributary of the Magdalena River
Mompox is a sleepy place during the day but Friday and Saturday nights the plaza de la conception come alive. The Beraca is a great place to soak up the atmosphere while having a very tasty meal. Most main courses come in around the £6-7 mark which is very reasonable.
. My husband had thin and huge Beef dish with French fries 28000)and it was tender and I had Mediterranean Salad,( 14000)very tasty. Another time with the house pizza, very thin crust and good( 20000). The pina colada were good ( 12000cop). Grace was very friendly and fast service.

Beautiful colonial house located in the historic center of the city of Mompox offers accommodation service, cafeteria, bar and pizzeria.
We stay a couple of nights. Unfortunately the Sunday we didnât have electricity in the whole town and this place doesnât have a generator, plus the rooms only have fans so is very warm. Rooms are clean and basic. The owner doesnât stay overnight as very casual, lay by and relax about the Hotel, but if you asked for help or advice they can give it to you. They only speak Spanish. If you want something different for breakfast make sure to mention in advance if not you get the usual scrambled eggs, bread and butter, fresh fruit and juice. They sell soft drinks and water. They supposed to have a cafe serving pizza but her daughter is in charge of it and didn't show any interest in us or another couple to make the effort and cooked it. There is not television in the rooms. In general quiet and peaceful. With a very nice shower head.
Where to eat Gastropub food in Mompos: The Best Restaurants and Bars
Tenemos cafés filtrados, jugos tropicales y la coctelerÃa más caribeña que puedas probar. ¡Todo y más en un solo sitio!
We visited for dinner on a quiet Sunday evening. We sat in the courtyard which is quite atmospheric but dark and the changing colour lights make dissecting fish very tricky. Perhaps our experience would have been better if we spoke Spanish (why should we expect others to speak English?)- but the service did seem laidback to an extreme. We ordered a caipirinha and a coconut lemonade. After a long time waiting I moved my seat where I could see the bar - no-one seemed to be doing anything except flicking through the paper menus. At least 30 minutes after we ordered, the waitress returned to say they couldnât do the caipirinha- why so long to make that decision? A bit longer wait and the limonata arrived, and we ordered a second instead of the cocktail. The food also arrived then - the dishes were quite ambitious - the baked fish steaks with a colourful risotto accompaniment tasted good; and a prawn pasta. But enjoyment of the taste was spoilt by the lighting (I know - we could have moved indoors, but that meant sitting by the big TV). Paying the bill was a bit chaotic too. There arenât many places to get good meals in Mompox and this restaurant has potential, and the chef seems quite ambitious. But the service needs improving!
Walk down a funky dirt street from the old part of town passing people selling fruit, veggies + meat. Eventually on the right side of the street youâll bump in the hoyse where they make cheese. Really good sort of like a mozarella. They have two types; plain cheese + cheese with dulce de guayaba in the center ... sounds wierd but very tasty. Stock up for your epic bus trip to Buca if youâre heading that way from Mompos. Youâll need it - the bus trip is an epic 9 hour affair ... donât forget to bring your ski wear ... really! As the driver on this run turns up the a/c to â arctic â level! You are duly warned! Back to the cheese though ... very yummy + recommended .. enjoy!

We actually stayed at Casa Amarilla, but wish we had stayed here after the stopping in for lunch day we were so enchanted by the generous hospitality shown to us although we weren't staying there. After having lunch, there was no question that we were going anywhere else for dinner. We had BEST food in Mompos (if you're looking not to eat street food for a change). An elderly couple built it, the wife trains locals to cook. The husband greeted us at dinner one night - a lovely lovely elder gentle man. He ended up staying and talking with us at the table most of the night, at our insistence (he didn't want to intrude). If you're looking for wine (often a rarity in many places in Colombia, and I'm a wino) go here. He has stocked his cellar with estate wines from Argentina and Chile, and we bought 2 bottles to take with us. We also had a LOT of problems with VanCity ATM cards and Visa at the ATMs throughout ALL of Colombia (Visa did work in stores/restaurants etc.). We were running low on cash, and we told him about our problems and he gave us cash against our VISA. A generous hospitable class act.
