Dropped in here for lunch on our first day in Sulmona. Ordered roast chicken and a pasta Raghu...both were great. Roast chicken was flattened with crispy skin on served with roast potato and a fresh green salad. The pasta was really tasty and we would go again.

Very touristic place, more attention to the ambiance than the food: it attempts to recreate a medieval hall, with chalices of different colours and shapes. The food is not bad, but nothing memmorable; maybe the exception is the tagliata di manzo in aceto, that comes sizzling hot and it is very tasty. Despite the ambiance the price is very reasonable.

Located just near the Porta SanâAntonio, you will get a true sense of the local food of Sulmona. Most notably, you can choose from a buffet offering a variety of local dishes ranging from various treatments of zucchini, aubergines, red peppers, mushrooms and minced veal balls, as appetisers. For our primi piatti, we had the pecorino and spinach-filled ravioli served with a tomato ragu and for our secondi piatti, we had the roasted lamb such was essentially lamb cutlets. This was accompanied by a 2018 Villa Gemma Collins Teatine Igt Bianca from Masciarelli from Chieti, which was light and fresh and went well with our meal. The service was good and the restaurant was essentially full of locals. A great start to our visit to Sulmona!

This Michelin restaurant is only open for lunch and we highly recommend that you make a reservation, because it was very popular and full of mainly local professionals. Mr. Pepino of Villa Maiella in Guardiagrele recommended that we visit this restaurant and we were exceptionally pleased that we did. For our primi piatti, we had the spaghetti with the agnello ragu, which had a hint of chilli and interestingly, mint. It was really good. For our secondi piatti, we had saccottino di vitello farcito di scamorza e cotto arrosto cotto al vino bianco e fungi, which was essentially a veal cordon bleu with mushroom sauce. This was served with an insalata misa and patate. The waiter brought a special vinegar made from Montepulciano dâAbruzzo wine to the table and told us to try it with the local olive oil. It was very special indeed. Needless to say, there was no bread left at the end of the meal as it was used in soaking up all the mushroom white wine sauce. While we simply could not fit in dolce, the waiter brought us a plate of divine petit fours, which comprised a coconut meringue; a meringue with pistachio nuts; biscotti, a jam slice; a chocolate brownie with hazelnuts; and a lemon slice!! Talk about spoiling!! Our food was accompanied by a 2016 Cerasuolo dâAbruzzo from Cataldi Madonna called Pie del Vigne, which is located in Ofena, Abruzzo. This wine is very different from other Cerasuolo wines that we have tasted in that it has the look and colour of a Pinot noir, because it is made in the old-fashioned way from red grapes, whereas the new style of rose is made from white grapes with a splash of red for colour and taste. The service was great and we certainly did not need to eat dinner that night.
