San Gimignano, known as the "city of beautiful towers," had 72 towers in its heyday. Now 14 remain, and, rising above Tuscany's Elsa Valley, they make the town look like a medieval dreamscape. Take in the fresco-covered Collegiate Church, the Civic Museum and the views from atop 177-foot Torre Grossa. Daytrippers from Florence tend to fill up the streets during the day, so for a more up-close-and-personal look at the town, spend the night.

The staff at this lovely hotel are very professional but friendly. The restaurant was very popular with locals as well as the guests staying here: the service was excellent and the food spot on. Our room was not huge but the shared terrace with the terrific view of the Tuscan countryside was. We loved our stay here and it rated as one of the best of the eight hotels we stayed in on this holiday.

We ate here on recommendation from our hosts. We were not disappointed, the food, wine and service were all excellent. The restaurant is slightly off the beaten tracks but well worth the visit. The service was also excellent with the team all being friendly and helpful, a great place which is highly recommend!

The restaurant is in the heart of the city, very near Piazza della Cisterna, with a nice, rustic dining space. The food is even more typical and authentic, a true representation of the Tuscan gastronomy. The service is friendly and very hospitable, we followed the advice and didnât make a mistake in choosing our meals (I donât think that you can make any mistake, because everything is exceptional). The price is reasonable for the quality and great experience.

Just a few metres away from the main streets and the crowds we found this osteria. Service very friendly, especially the older guy also serving. We enjoyed the atmosphere and got good food. Especially the risotto of my wife was the best she ever had.

On the plus side this restaurant is in a nice location with a choice of tables outside or inside and it has a good feel.Service was efficient and reasonably friendly though nothing special. The menu looked good as did the wine list however. My antipasti selection was poor and expensive for what it was. My friends salad was also poor, just a plate of limp leaves and no dressing. We both had lamb for our main course which was not bad. The accompanying aubergine âmushâ however was very uninspired.Having been disappointed with the meal we asked for the bill only to discover that a â¬5 coperta EACH and a â¬1.50 charge for 2 dried up bits of bread EACH was added to the bill. This tipped my review from 3 stars down to 2. Overall easily the worst meal in my 3 weeks in Italy and the excessive extra charges left a very bitter taste.
