My husband and I were hungry after the grotte tour (worth the hour!) and this unassuming little place was right there, so we thought weâd at least get something convenient, if not particularly notable. We were so pleasantly surprised!! Delicious, inexpensive, good vegetarian and/or non-pasta options. The homemade walnut(?) gelato with the homemade fig drizzle was amazing. And Michele Iorio, our host, was so nice and helpful - recommending a local swimming hole (Ischia di Pietra Tonda) and a visit to the town of Castelcivitas (both were great finds unmentioned in our guidebooks!). We came back two days later with our extended family tour group for a second meal! Just as good!!Katie & Josh, thank you very much for coming and for coming back with the rest of the family. We are glad to know you were pleasantly surprised by us. Castelcivita has a lot to offer and we feel satisfied of our advice: you enjoyed everything we suggested. Very nice to meet you and hope to meet you again.Sincerely,Michele of Casa Civitas

We were in Controne to visit the birthplace of my husband's grandparents. We arrived at the restaurant in off-hours, but they were very welcoming, made us delicious pasta fagioli with Controne beans, and talked to us via Google translate. It was a perfect homecoming meal.

Located in the Regional Park of Picentini on the hills of Varano, Campagna, among the majestic oaks and splendid olive groves, the "Cera Una Volta," There Was a Time, Country House offers guests a quiet respite from the modern world. Here at the Vitale Fa
Tonino is a fantastic chef, entertainer, and personality. His meals are always impeccably cooked, thoughtful, and celebrate with gustatory joy all that southern Italy has to offer. Each meal we had at his restaurant was an epic and memorable experience, one that makes me simultaneously happy and sad that I might never get to enjoy it again.

We decided to pull off main road in search of a light lunch - we aimed for Buccino which was 15 minutes away although on the way back only 5 minutes, that's satnav for you. We saw a sign and went for it to Al Chiostro - no English spoken and no menu, however we managed to order some lovely ravioli, a couple of beers, and although we thought we were getting a salad we got a 2nd course of deep fired vegetables all very lovely. The meal cost about 30 Euros and we were introduced to mamma, the chef - great experience and only another local family in restaurant. Go for it if you are going past in this sleepy town.
