We had a 90th birthday lunch for my mother. We requested some tables and asked that the guests arrive and order about a half hour before we arrived with Mom. The Cafe people were so accommodating! Everyone ordered sandwiches or salads, drinks and chips. They were all excellent -- such a variety to choose from and better-than-homemade! We ordered the German Chocolate cake for her birthday dessert (we had had it the year before for my husbands birthday) and it was to die for! Can't recommend this cafe highly enough! My only regret is that they aren't located in our town in South Jordan, Utah!

What a delightful 'chill' cafe. We were visiting from Vancouver, B.C., Canada and wanted a light supper. One pizza was ideal for two people. The chef at Hillsbottom Pie has certainly mastered the art of pizza making. It was one of the most memorable pizzas we have ever eaten. We decided to go for one of their legendary pies for dessert. We chose the cherry pie, as it was the only one left. These popular pies sell out! What a special treat it was, butter crust and all. You have the winning formula, along with many other meal choices on the menu. We will definitely return.

We came into town almost before closing time and were delighted to find the Cafe open. The only way to be closer to the water would be in it! Cocktails, beer and wine are served. Varied menu with a wide selection of chowder, salads, seafood, steaks, sandwiches and burgers. The chowder and Rueben sandwich were very good! Staff is friendly and attentive too. The ferry landing is located nearby. Interesting to watch...Highly recommend a visit.

I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars, Hanazono deserves evey one. Simply wonderfully prepared, presented, quality food. Salads are usually a restaurant profit engine, and usually disappoint. Our Sashimi Salad here has nice cuts of sashimi, and a beautiful assortment of greens. The Tan Ran Ramen was the best I've had outside of Japan, and the Champon, rare even in the growing number of Ramen shops where we live in the Seattle area, was super flavorful. The Baked Pear on Ice Cream with Caramel Sauce was also exquisite. It's a long trek to Port Townsend for us, but we'll be back to dine with Kaori-San and her attentive crew at Hanazono again and again!
Aldrich's is a community institution, even in its iteration after the fire totally destroyed the original structure in August 2003. Residents then were predicting that it "lost its soul" and would never be the same community place again. Those sour statements turned out not to be true. Now over 15 years later, the building is better,. bigger, safer, and most importantly has completely regained its place as the heart of the uptown neighborhood. Port Townsend was lucky to have a small string of owners since the fire who realized its historic potential and brought that to fruition. Visit Aldrich's for a very good take out deli, a great beer selection, and both plain and organic produce, and for sometimes hard-to-find items like special condiments. Also vital are the mezzanine section for meeting friends, and on the same level the sushi shop which opens for lunches.
