I traveled here with a group for a special event â Backroads Vintage Market Day (held once a month on Wednesdays), featuring âvintage, salvaged, repurposed and handmade goods.â When they say âbackroads,â they ainât kidding. This onetime farm is located in a remote area accessed only by a stretch of gravel road thatâs not really wide enough for bi-directional traffic. Once the road dust settles, the rustic farm buildings and bucolic views of cornfields and a pond are kinda purdy. I generally enjoy craft and antique fairs but I did not love this one. In a nutshell, Market Days is for the gals. Amid booth after booth of womenâs fashion, fake flowers, and cutesy curios, I felt like the figurative lonely onion in a petunia patch. I was bored out of my gourd.Having mucho extra time to kill, we decided to have lunch in the Tearoom. The 30-minute wait was no problem because they gave us an electronic pager. Our server was pleasant, but on this very busy day, food prep trudged along at glacial speed and it took 45 minutes for our meal to arrive. The âEmerson Creek Wrapâ was very good but rather dainty. The accompanying sides â7 kettle chips (yes, I counted) plus 3 thin slivers of melon â amounted to garnish. This meal cost $15.99 plus tax and tip. Hey, would you mind putting just one more kettle chip on my plate to make it an even 8?

If you enjoy an authentic bagel, this is the place. Terrific selections of bagels and various cream cheeses. The breakfast bagel sandwich was delicious and I love the multitude of self-serve coffee, and flavor-shot options. We will definitely be coming back.
Steve Buresh has opened his second treasure! He is famous for his flavor-packed cheesecake in a jar. He was featured on Chicagoâs Best. The second establishment can be enjoyed in Oswego, Illinois. The cheesecakes come in two different sizes and many enticing varieties. They have a layer of graham cracker crumbs, cheesecake and toppings. So delicious that you may want to buy more than one! Keep your jar and return a cleaned jar for 50 cents off your next purchase. The cheesecakes are great to serve at a shower! They also offer tasty deli sandwiches, salads and soups. The chicken rice soup is some of the best soup I have ever eaten. It is hot and creamy with chewy wild rice.
