Promptly seated for table for 6. Drinks, apps arrived promptly followed by a great variety of luncheon sandwiches, burgers. Cozy/Tavern atmosphere--Fish Tacos, Rueben, Thomas Burger and quesodillas (child's menu) were enjoyed by all! Service from start to finish was prompt and attentive. Affordable. Food was tasty--no issues. Highly recommend.

We loved the variety of tacos offered--typical Mexican, Korean Barbecue, special lobster--as well as quesadillas, salads, burritos and many sides. The fish tacos, Korean shrimp tacos, melted cheese, and guacamole were delicious, as were the warm chips and spicy salsa. Unfortunately, the margaritas did not live up to the food. We're not beer drinkers, but I make a great margarita and Metzy's did not come close--too sweet, needed more lime, and more or better tequilla. And their are not inexpensive.(fyi - I did not realize that there was an actual review left by Marion, as we went back and forth with direct messages as well - pasted below is my emailed response from July 9th)"Hello Marion, very nice to hear how much you enjoy our food. I am very sorry to hear your feedback about our margaritas. This is such an uncommon comment, I can only assume something happened out of the ordinary on your visit. Our management team has already spoken about your comments, and we will be having a review session with all of our bartenders this week to be sure we are consistently pouring the best and freshest Margaritas around. I would very much like to learn more about your specific concerns about our margaritas. If you would be willing, please reach out to me directly at [email protected] or on my cell at 617-448-9435. FYI, we have no high fructose corn syrup in any ingredients in our bar or our kitchen. By default, this ends up meaning that our Margaritas tend to be the freshest and most tasty Margaritas around. We use only the best margarita mixes, and our base level house margaritas have the best triple Sec available. We squeeze our own lime juice in house. Our house Margaritas are served with 100% blue agave tequila (available for upsell with a variety of other options as well), and any of our flavored Margaritas are flavored with top quality products."

a friend from newburyport introduced me to this better than average cafe when i last visited. it is definitely no frills - menus on blackboards, counter service, grab a seat wherever you can find one. but the food is really really good - fresh breads and pastries, wonderful salads and house made soups that vary from day to day. the food is consistently GOOD!!! i have been (and will continue to be) back and enjoy it every time!

Mandarava is a community gathering place serving organic, vegan and kosher scratch cooking. Located at Inn Street playground in Newburyport, Massachusetts, our menu changes daily but always includes one soup and one daily bowl -- a balanced meal of beans,
I went last night to celebrate my best friend's birthday & I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience we had & how delicious the food was!My dear friend lives in NH & is vegan. I live just outside Boston & am a total foodie. We often meet in Newburyport as a half way point. We have had good meals at most of the restaurants there over the years, but Mandarava was head & shoulders above the rest!! I chose it for my friend because it was vegan, but I can assure you that even if you have never had a vegan meal in your life, you will walk away satisfied. I called to make a reservation after being unsuccessful on open table & was thrilled when I was told we could bring our own bottle of wine (& no corking fee).We opted for the tasting menu with soup & dessert (6 courses). We expected the servings to be smallish "tasting size", but they were generous & hearty, & it was more food than we could eat. Everything was freshly prepared, flavorful, beautifully presented, clearly made with Love, healthy, satisfying, creative & wonderful in every way!We started with a creamy, thick, savory cauliflower soup lightly flavored with cayenne that perfectly hit the spot. Following the soup was the best kale salad I've ever had with the most delicious cashew creme dressing & gently pickled cabbage on top. I practically licked the bowl. The next course was local acorn squash that melted in your mouth, with the tastiest & texturally interesting (in the best way) quinoa with seaweed covered in a spicy, creamy pesto, sprinkled with pepitas, accompanied by beautifully flavored kidney beans with I believe other roasted veggies. Next came warm, sweet parsnips, rainbow carrots & beets with a creamy sunflower dressing. Divine! When I didn't think I could eat another bite dessert arrived! Cookies & milk... Warm, chocolate chip cookies with warm almond milk spiced with cloves...what a fantastic combination! Had to take half my dessert home, as couldn't let it go to waste! The restaurant is owned by a mother & daughter, who were both chefs, servers & hostesses. They were kind & lovely & let us stay as long as we wanted. Mandarava has just opened for dinner after a recent expansion. It's tucked away in a pedestrian way off the large parking lot in the center of town & was a bit hard to find. As we walked up it looked dark inside & we were afraid they were closed. I'm so glad we were able to experience this special restaurant! We will be back! In fact I know it will now be our go to place in Newburyport. I highly recommend Mandarava!
