Try the buffalo mozzarella or ricotta cheese with ham... Add some Aglianico to it and you are golden

After arriving in San Michele to see where my maternal grandmother lived, we stumbled into this amazing restaurant. Let's start with the atmosphere. It is a very cozy place, and felt like we were dining at a friends house. Onto the food, I cannot recall how many courses of food that we had, but Giovanni, the owner, had us try a sampling of everything. the steak Fiorentino was the best ever. The creation of dishes by their chef consisting of different cheeses and mushrooms and sausage were amazing I cannot wait to return again during my next visit to San Michele. I wish you were here in NYC!

Carlo and Anna know their stuff! A welcoming manner with a verbal recommendation of the day's offerings instead of the usual handing over of the menu. We just ordered one dish each which was excellently executed by the kitchen and were offered complimentary desserts and liqueurs all for a very reasonable price. The locale is small which adds an air of intimacy which I sensed the other regular clients were drawn to, apart from the good food and friendly attention of course. It's right in the town centre, a minute away from the cathedral, so parking isn't guaranteed although a couple of anti-clockwise goes around the block opposite is usually enough to find a spot which is at most three minutes walk back to the restaurant.

My hosts in the Naples area took me to dinner at this restaurant in the small town of Atripalda outside Avellino. The food was both plentiful and delicious. We started with a delicious set of antipasti - a wonderful melanzane bruschetta, some mozzarella di bufala, prosciutto, salami, and pancetta. We then had 3 courses of soup: a wonderful chick pea soup, and an equally tasty soup made with porcini mushrooms. The third soup was a pasta e fagioli soup with something green in it (I think escarole). Yummy and plentiful. This was followed by two different types of pasta, also equally yummy. By this time, we had eaten so much that we could not order a secondi (or meat course). All of this was washed down with a smooth local red wine. At the end of the meal, we had two after-dinner drinks: a limoncello and a nocillo (liquer made with nuts). All in all, a very tasty and delicious meal. The price was very reasonable, about $40 Euro per person, all inclusive.

We visited my husband's home town and found this gem of a restaurant. If you're staying in nearby Avellino, make the short drive to visit Lucariello's. The food and service are exceptional. I typically never eat seafood in the USA because we cannot always get fresh or wild caught fish - and we live near Boston! This restaurant's seafood was so fresh, I ate everything! The portions are generous and the pasta is outstanding. The staff is very friendly and genuine. And since it is a small town and no one speaks English, it is a very authentic Italian experience. No tourists here, except the occasional visitors (like us) coming back to see family & friends. The owner is very dedicated, and proudly hand picks all the fish for his restaurant himself - that's quality control! The wine is also excellent, décor is elegant and the bar is really nice. I loved everything on the menu & will make sure to stop here on our return visits to Prata.Maria F.- Saugus, Massachusetts - USA

Antonio and Mauro run this lovely little restaurant. They feature bacalà , the salted cod that is the regional favorite. Walking through the iron gates andup the incline to the restaurant itself, you may be lucky enough to see Gregorio, Antonio's black Newfoundland, through the fence. He has a children's Fisher-Price playhouse all to himself! If you are lucky enough to visit the restaurant in good weather, sit outside. They've made a really delightful patio area, with twinkling lights and nicely set tables.Inside, it's cozy and twinkling with lights, the stone walls and arches making it feel like you've walked into a secret hideaway. Let Antonio suggest something. Mauro always has creative dishes and the wine is good and the music always perfect.
