Reviews on Soups food in Hercules, California, United States. Hercules is a city in western Contra Costa County, California. Situated along the coast of San Pablo Bay, it is located in the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area, about 10 miles (16 km) north of Berkeley, California. As of 2010, its population was 24,060, according to the United States Census Bureau. The site of Hercules was first developed in 1881 as a manufacturing facility of the California Powder Works for the production of its patented dynamite formulation, Hercules powder. In 1882, the Hercules Powder Company was incorporated and assumed responsibility for the Hercules site. It was one of several explosive manufacturers that were active along the Pinole shoreline in the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The small company town that grew up near the facility subsequently became known as "Hercules", and was incorporated at the end of 1900. Starting in the 1970s, Hercules was heavily redeveloped as suburban bedroom community that lies along the I-80 corridor in Eastern Contra Costa County. It has a very ethnically diverse population.

So many restaurants close at 9pm in the Bay Area. If you want to avoid chain establishments or fast food outlets, there are few options, especially in outlying parts of the East Bay like El Sobrante. Open till 10pm, this Asian fusion restaurant does a good job serving a selection of Chinese and Thai dishes. It's relatively small, though even at lunch it's rarely full, and evenings they seem to do a steady business in take-out.

My husband and I come here every two to three months with friends. Happy hour from Wednesday through Friday is a great deal, with discounted drinks from the full bar, and earlybird specials. I particularly like the prime rib for two on Friday and Saturdays. The portions are generous (12+ ounces each) and the food tasty. This dish comes with soup or salad, baked potato and veggies done al dente, and a bottle of wine to share. Their fried seafood is excellent, as well as the pasta specials. When crowded, service can be a little slow, but if you don't try to rush the servers they are friendly and accommodating. I've occasionally had desert, and the peach melba is the star. Getting there is tricky, and the unpaved driveway and parking lot full of holes, but once you are in the restaurant the view is the show.
