I was traveling with a Road Scholar group from the U.S. We stayed at Hotel Italia and ate our meals in Ristorante Via del Forno,a fascinating restaurant attached to Hotel Italia. The breakfasts were excellent with personal coffee-or tea-service from the young man at the bar. We had big dinners while touring the hill towns of Umbria so our evening meals at the hotel were lighter but very good. The soups were delicious. Every evening the innkeeper, the Senora, would tell us stories about the history of the ristorante. Centuries ago it was a bakery or il forno. So the dining room has a vaulted ceiling,I think left over from the days as a bakery. A painting on the wall shows a wounded soldier who is really a woman. She was the daughter of a baker here long ago. So much history and so much warmth here:spirit of the warm bread. Loved it!

There are quite a few good places to eat in Foligno, including my preferred one, Premiata Officina Del Gusto, but unfortunately, most of them are only open for dinner. I was looking for lunch on a recent Friday and ran into La Spagnola: A Spanish restaurant it said, but the menu was all Italian, plus Paella and I decided to give it a try. The ambiance was pleasant enough, with nice touches of "flying cooks" and wine presses as decorations. Unfortunately, the food did not leave to my expectations. The frito misto de pesce was tasteless and the roasted peppers microwaved, thus turning into mush. A bottle different from the one ordered was brought to the table and quickly opened. They did take it back when I questioned it. Even inexpensive as it is, it's not worth it. A note: the interior DOES NOT look at all like the photo here above

La passione per la ristorazione crea l'idea di portare la buona cucina, quella tradizionale espressione piu profonda e vera della terra umbra, in un'ex-officina automobilistica ristrutturata grazie a un affascinante lavoro di recupero.Aperto a pranzo e a
Driving through Foligno earlier in the week, I saw this new sign âMangiafuocoâ in front of a building on Via IV Novembre. I liked the looks of the restaurant, and I also liked the name, which means eat fire in English. It turned out to be a quite pleasant dining experience. They had only opened 2 weeks ago, but seemed to be pretty well organized.I really liked the décor, a great blend of design and industrial gone white. We enjoyed a Bacon Bruschetta, Assortied cheeses, and a really nice Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Unfortunately, I only had my iPhone, which doesnât really capture the feeling of the place. Daniele Costarelli, the host was very nice and attentive. Looking forward to the next visit.

we were driving east across the mountains and wanted a place for lunch - saw the reviews and tried it. No menu just sit down and you get what is on the lunch menu - ricotta, raw sausage, salad, pasta, dish of lentils... we had to stop before meat course - could not manage it! Everything including wine for two of us was 20⬠each. Nothing fancy - and it really is easy to miss but the map in tripadvisor is actually correct.

You have to be very brave and secure in your idea about gastronomy:):):) to open restaurant which offers only soups and few dessert's. I must say that soups are very delicious but they must make better desserts. Our carrot cake was too dry.Great place for lunch if you are not too hungry:)
